IMHO go to your bank and ask the bank manager, with regard to that much money at risk I wouldn't trust anything the internet tells me. If you have a bank account in Australia the AIB/BOI/whatever should be able to transfer the money for you.

Dave I used Ulsterbank recently for a lot less and they charged me £25 set fee for the transfer. With that amount I would be just looking for the Best rate...

    By the way congradulations...:-)

Thanks Zambia. Not quite there yet although we were told that if they are asking for the bond everything else is passed and the visa is ready to go :)

Folks I've done some research today and thank god I didn't go with our bank in Ireland (TSB)

TSB rate is 1.5561 - €60K transfer would give $93,366AUD
Hifx rate is 1.629 - €60K transfer would give $97,740AUD

    Thats nearly $4,500AUD difference!!!

The AUD is really strong at the moment :( Over the past 12 months the best rate was 1.73 (€60K=$103,800AUD). Best quote right now is 1.629 (€60K=$97,740). Difference of over $6,000AUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    hey daveg

My MIL was with perm tsb and recently moved - she was changing a LOT of money. Let's put it this way - she was at the counter, they offered her a rate, she asked if they couldn't do any better, they came back a few minutes later and offered her a rate that was $40,000 better...

And still I reckon she was ripped off.

Hi MAJD I too was amazed at the difference in the rates. As I said if I'd just taken TSB's rate it'd a cost me about $4,500.

I'm dealing with Chris Humperey in OzForex. Some advice, don't say your gonna go with anyone. Get the best rate on the day and go with whoever can give you the best rate. As I said were checking rates with:
