Dell Inspiron 6400 Sound Problems with Itunes

A friend of mine has an inspiron 6400 and he has regular problems with itunes which is giving him a message to the effect that his sound settings need adjustent - apparently there is a fix suggested on the Apple site that involved uninstalling and reinstalling quicktime but this has not worked from him. Just wonder if…

Just wonder if anyone else has experienced similar problems and if they managed to get them fixed and how of course?
