Some Dreamweaver questions from a beginner

    Hi,

I'm a beginner webdesigner and have two questions regarding Dreamweaver. Have tried the help menu in both cases but can't find the answers I need. Would really appreciate any advice.

    1. How do I set my background as green but with a gradient (dark at top and getting lighter as it moves down the page)? I couldn't find an option to do this in Dreamweaver or in Photoshop. I did go into Layer - Layer Style - Gradient Overlay in Photoshop but it seems to only give an option for a black/grey gradient effect.

    2. How do I copy text over from Photoshop to Dreamweaver while keeping the background colour of the page and the imported background of text identical. When I open a new file in Photoshop and choose the transparant background option the background shows up as white in Dreamweaver. Also when I type in the corresponding code in Photoshop and copy and paste it over the background colour is just slightly different - hardly noticable in Dreamweaver but quite evident when viewed in the browser.

    Thanks x

    1. You don't direclty but can with CSS e.g. www.tizag.com/cssT/background.php

    2. Photoshop is a graphics program whereas DW is a web page editor. If you want to copy text then just copy it. If the text is in an unusual font then save it as a transparent gif. Are you saving it as a jpg?

Welcome to the griefs of web design!

You can change the colours of the gradient in photoshop, click on the two colours black/grey and white and change them to whatever colours you want the gradient to be, you can also add additional points for the gradient.

For the transparent background save the file as a .png instead of gif or jpg

Some browsers don't recognise transparent .png files though am I right?

Yar, IE6 treats the transparent area as white... pff.
