What goes on in Carlton?

I'm fairly new to Dublin and I was wondering what happens in that Carlton place on O'Connell's Street at night? There's always non-nationals going in and out of the place and you have to ring a bell and confront a bouncer to get in...anyone have any ideas? Just curious
