Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Best Electronic events in Dublin?

My first question is if there are any regular Industrial/EBM events in Dublin City with DJs spinning that sort of stuff. The next is where I could go to find some dnb, IDM or just interesting electronic music. I know in Cork there is a myspace page which posts upcoming events so I was wondering if there is an analogue to this for Dublin. Much appreciated if anyone knows

Not sure about EBM nights. You might get the odd EBM guest playing in Dublin but its rare enough. If you think there is a gap there then you should put on an EBM night.
As for IDM, I know that psychonavigation play weekly in Dublin but not too sure now. It used to be on Spirit so it could still be there.

Just looked up Spirit there it doesn't seem like they do it anymore. I was actually half considering doing some EBM Dj stuff but I want to go out and enjoy it not worry about spinning it

quite a bit of dnb about, REACH do a monthly thing up in crawdaddy, and a weekly in traffic, but we've kind of wound it down for the summer

    http://www.virb.com/reachdrumandbass - you'll find any gigs there...

www.irishdrumandbass.com is a good spot to check the listings DNB wise

as for EBM/IDM etc, there's plenty of little laptop jams and beardy electronica nights around, try Lazybird in the International (if it's still going)

Cool, thanks for all the replys. Hopefully most of these are still around. Definitely check out the dnb ones. I really want to go to some little laptop type events here but its hard to find some of them unless you happen to be friends with someone else who knows someone else who knows the DJ or something.

How about somewhere like Dominion? It's a start, perhaps...

Since U:Mack have cut back on promoting electronic gigs there's definitely been a lack of IDM (although I hate that term) shows in Dublin lately. Autechre in the TBMC was the last big one. It's a bit late for this weekend Chris Clark is playing at the Life Festival near Gort: http://www.neutronyx.net/life/web-69/line_up/index.html

On the more techno tip, but still definitely heading into the IDM area is Monolake (one of the guys who wrote Ableton Live) who'll be playing at Wax (under Spy on South William Street) on Thursday the 19th of July, promoted by Electric City. They also had Neil Landstrumm down a while who, he was very good, once again it's more the techno end of things but Landstrumm has a few recent releases on Planet Mu so I suppose you could consider him a tad IDMmy. :)

The closest you'd get to industrial in Ireland would probably be a DJ set from Surgeon or the British Murder Boys who are both (well, Surgeon is one half of BMB) playing at the Planet Love festival, however they're the only good acts there in my opinion so I wouldn't go to it myself: http://www.dancemusicireland.com/PlanetLoveSummerSessions/planetlovess07flyer8resize_.jpg
Speedy J plays for the Electric City guys sometimes, keep an eye on their site for future dates (they get good acts, but more on the house/techno end of things: http://www.electricity-dublin.com/)

The upcoming Sliabh An Iarainn festival will have its fair share of good weird music, DJ Rupture, 808 State, Neil Landstrumm, Cylob, Muziq, Milanese etc: http://www.saifestival.com/

EBM: I suppose you might get some played at whatever Goth clubs are still going in Dublin (are there any proper ones still going? No, Fibbers doesn't count!), I wouldn't be a big expert in that field myself. Are Nitzer Ebb considered EBM?

I tend to post about any upcoming IDM/weird techno/proper electro gigs on my own website: http://www.skkatter.net, keep on eye on that every so often (a bit of shameless self promotion never hurt anybody!), there's a rumour going around that Aphex Twin has been booked to play somewhere in Galway this October, I'll believe it when I see him there though. Otherwise you're better off going over to London, much more choice and better music happening over there. Too much **** electrohouse in Dublin right now unfortunately, ahh I remember the days when The Funnel was still open......*sigh*.........

Oh yeah, I forgot about Lazybird, I believe they're still going on Sundays. Another good forum to check for the more chin-stokery laptop action would be the gig section of http://www.thumped.com/bbs/

I played for these guys before and you'll probably hear some electronic stuff coming out of one or more laptops:

The Electric Fix 2nd birthday show with...
    ROBOTNIK
    BRIGHT LIGHT FIASCO
    STOAT
    and more tbc...
with guest DJ slots from PEE PEE (The Chalets) and LPX.
    Friday June 15th / Eamonn Doran's, Temple Bar / 9pm til late / 8 Euros

Currently I'm a bit out of the gig loop myself as I've been out of the country a lot lately. If I think of any more suggestions I'll post them up. I'm DJing myself in The Cavern tonight, it'll be more techno oriented than IDM oriented though:

    Friday 15th June
    The Cavern @ Radiocity
Frenchmans Lane Store st, Dublin1 (opp Busarus)
    Doors 10pm
    Admission 8euro

    skkatter [G.S.S]
    Richie Rosman [Rosman]
    Michael Gaffney [Schmo]
    Stam [Junction]
