He was injured to anywhere near the same extent as he was when he was at Liverpool. He pretty much got injured pretty soon after returning to the PL.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

its not the fact he gets injured to much, it's more his recovery time. i think i remember the newcastle or england physio saying he heals about three times slower than any other player he has ever dealt with.

    Another Gillet interview..
    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premiership/liverpool/article1940566.ece
“We are pleased with Rafa and his strategy. It’s not dissimilar to what he outlined to us in February. His belief is to look for players with the proper chemistry to enhance the team. We support Rafa. He has a programme under way and, as that unfolds, that will be the time for us to be judged, not now.”

I reckon that if Gudjohnson is available this summer, we should definately do all we can to get him. Always thought he is an excellent player and with his ability to finish and footballing brain i think he would make our attack much more clinical. Plus I'd imagine you'd be able to sign him up without breaking the bank.

I'm sure we could all forgive him for getting Alonso suspended for the second leg of the CL semi in 05 if he banged in a few goals for us!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

i always liked Gudjohson until that Alonso incident but the fact that he missed that open goal at anfield in 2005 at made up for that!

When I was watching that live I couldn't believe the ball hadn't gone in. I had my head in my hands waiting for the roar from the Chelsea fans which, thank God, never came. Having watched it again over the years, I still can't understand how it didn't deflect off Drogba or worse Carragher. It can only have missed them by inches!

    Another Tevez rumour

Liverpool to sign West Hams Tevez.

Tevez looking to link up with countryman Mascherano at Anfield.

It’s believed Kia Joorabchain has sealed a 32 million deal that will take Hammers favourite Tevez to Anfield. The young Argentinian who was in blistering form at the tail end of last season for West Ham has attracted interest from the biggest clubs in Europe including Real Madrid and AC Milan. Tevez has not met with the Liverpool manager but is believed to be settled in England but would like to be playing champions league football next season and would like to pair up with his old friend Mascherano at Anfield. This move will show Liverpools new owners intent on taking the club forward looking to challenge for the premiership title next season.

You always have to question a source which says something like 'This move will show Liverpools new owners intent on taking the club forward looking to challenge for the premiership title next season' :)

If SWP is availible, surely Liverpool must move for him, his talent is undoubted.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Agree about the sources esp junk sites like Tribalfootball. SWP would be an exellent buy and he really needs a club that offers some stability. Yossi Benayoun, if thats not a Rafa playing a 'blind', would be a handy squad member but Luis Garcia does that job really.

    Liverpools top 10 reserve goals this season;
    http://youtube.com/watch?v=ASpZRvUoxgk

Out of all that the most impressive looking players are Lindfield, El Zhar and Anderson. Really getting confident about Lindfield now though.

Wasn't there jobs advertised a couple of months ago as the club looked to set up its own TV Channel (like ManU/Chelsea/Celtic/Rangers). Anyone hear about it and whether it will be up and running for the beginning of the season?. I'd imagine it should carry these reserve games and give people a much greater indication of whats coming through.

Either way, I think I'll get the official website season ticket once the season starts

Don't recall seeing jobs advertised for it but yes - they are due to launch their own channel. Haven't seen a timeframe against it so not sure if it'll be up & broadcasting for the new season.

Today's guardian claiming we've bid close to 3m for Benayoun and he's now told West Ham that he wishes to leave.

Think he's a good buy for 3m for any team but I'm just not convinced we need him. But if Rafa is after him then I'm sure there's a reason for it.

Where is he going to play ? 3rd choice behind Gerrard and Pennant on the right ? That to me is too much rotation seeing as we have Garcia that can fill in there as well. Hes never played on the left and we have even more players that can play in the hole. Gerrard, Kuyt, Kewell, Veronin, Garcia...

I should have just checked Google. Found this.

    http://www.anfield-online.co.uk/lfc-news/2007/04/16/liverpool-fc-to-launch-tv-channel-this-summer/

Closing date for applications was May 11th, so I presume the jobs are filled, and ready to go

Pretty shocking that it's taken Liverpool this long to get a TV channel up and running. As probably the second most supported English team in the world (doubt Chelsea would have usurped us this quickly), they really should have got this crap set up years ago. How long has ManU TV been around at this stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

The first quote about it on that site is very true, the ticket system is a shambles.

"Instead of a TV channel how about investing the money in the ticket system and get some proper phone lines that have a queueing system on them meaning people that can be bothered to get up at 8.30, redial all day and find the game is sold out,get put in the queue first as opposed to some who get up at 1OM and get through first time!!

Or a decent online ticket server that doesn’t crash and can cope with demand of more than 10 people"

    Probably related to

    - Rick Parry being a lazy sod, and the club being run like a joke in terms of commercialisation and merchandising
    - MUTV never making a profit

Anybody else notice that the match against Blackburn on the 23/03 looks pretty much like our first team. Gerrard, Pennant, Aurellio, Fowler, Zenden, Arbeloa, Agger. Great to go see that match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

Inter have bought David Suazo. Weren't we linked with him at some point? He won Best Foreign Player in Italy this year along with Kaka, have we missed out on a gem?

On the other hand though, Inter have signed another striker. Guess Tevex wont be going there or else Adriano/Ibra/Cruz is for sale.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

Well, Suazo is a very talented player. Probably the fastest player you'll see in mainstream football playing for a big team.

As for Tevez, a few sources are now saying that Magnusson has pulled out all the stops to secure a new €9 million contract for Tevez, so maybe he isnt on the move at all..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

it is only a loan for the season. the 9mil pays MSI for the loan and Tevez's contract for the year. it would seem there isnt too much interest in him at 32m then!! maybe we could snag that deal?

Tevez at 32m is ridiculous. What has he done to have that price tag put on him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

i wasnt suggesting we pay that, but that was the rumored price that inter were willing to pay, think it was euro btw.

I was suggesting we set up a similar deal to the masch deal as west ham are trying to do now.

Tevez at 32m is ridiculous. What has he done to have that price tag put on him?

not saying that isnt a ridiculous price-tag but this is what he has done

2007 – West Ham United Hammer of the Year
    2006- Argentina World Cup squad
2005 – Campeonato Brasileiro's Best Player by CBF (Brazilian Soccer Confederation)
2004 – Olimpia de Oro award for Argentine most important Sportperson of the year & Olympic Golden Boot (8 goals in 6 matches)

    not to mention
2003, 2004 and 2005 – South American Player of the Year

    o and hes only 23.

by these standards what have people like Wayne Rooney done thats so great, except be playing where youve seen them the past few years. plus when Tevez was actually given a proper run in the premiership he ran amuck. Tevez is quality!

Indeed. I drool at the thought of seeing him play in a good team surrounded by good players. Hope he isnt at west ham next year so we can see his real potential.

Todays rumour is Bellamy to Roma, would be good to see Mancini going the other way.If we cant afford Eto who is the next best?i reckon Diego Milto rather than Forlan would be better.
David Nugent looks like he might be a great player and a good investment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,095 ✭✭✭zing

Juve & Roma apparently interested in Bellamy. Rafa said to prefer Roma as he should be able to negotiate a deal involving Mancini coming the other way. Sounds like an ideal player trade to me.

    Edit: raven136 got there first

Sounds like complete speculation to me. How do these journalists know that Rafa would prefer him to go to Roma ? Have we even been linked to Manchini ?

Of course it's all speculation - same as with every other player we've been linked with to date. But - yes, we have been linked to him for a few weeks now but Malouda seemed to be the preferred choice.

Atletico Madrid missed out on a UEFA Cup spot. That could signal a flurry of activity with clubs trying to sign Torres.

anyone hear Graham Hunter on off the ball recently? He basically said Rafa had agreed with Malouda and his agent over a deal to bring him to anfield but no money was forthcoming from the owners.Hope this story is not true or the signs are very bad

Dont believe it for a second.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,929 ✭✭✭raven136

i am not sure about the story myself but Hunter has been spot on about a few stories for off the ball. Also Dominic Fifield has said things along the same lines recently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

if we dont see some signings this week it could signal trouble. wont believe it from press though - unless bascombe on balliuge (SP?) say something concrete or we hear from Rafa or the board but if the stories are true we will be hearing about it at the press conference Rafa calls to quit...

All very well and good, but unless they'd also got an agreement with Lyon (famed for extracting every last penny for players leaving) then its a non-story. And Lyon are claiming that they won't sell for less than 17million. Is Malouda a 17million player?. I don't think so, but I'm sure there are clubs that would be willing to pay that.

And Aguerro who is a quality player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,067 ✭✭✭✭Tusky

Alot of people arent too keen on Torres. Everytime I have seen him he has been quality, this has mainly been at international level. There is also the point to be made that Villa, Eto'o, Henry etc didnt really shine until they played for a top club which could be the same with Torres as he is quite young also. I would be happy to see him at Anfield.
