see Sissoko's little back heel - looked great, thought to myself maybe his touch has improved. then 10 seconds later couldnt pass to pennant who was 3 feet from him, sigh....

Yeah, i was gonna post about it but didn't think anyone would believe me ;)
Of the reserves on show, even if he hadn't scored Putterill looked the best of the lot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

i thought spearing looked good too, none of them in the first half looked out of place, although el Zhar tried to do too much. connection kept dropping in the 2nd so didnt see much but putterill did look good.

That's the price of his buy-out clause. Whether or not Liverpool pay that is another question, but it's what Heinze will have to pay to get out of his United contract.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,731 ✭✭✭el rabitos

so basically, liverpool will be paying that 6.8 million, plus however much of a signing on fee he would have been getting anyway. bit steep for a 29 year old who hasnt exactly been up to much for the past 2 years.

3 or 4 million for him would have been a good deal, upwards of 7 million? fcuk that

6.8 mill is his 2 years of wages that he will get from being paid for liverpool for the next two years in anyway so the sign on could be 3 Mill or even 1 Mill... none will know until he signs.

    Incorrect.

Heinze pays the €6.76m. Then Liverpool sign him on a free, but pay him a big signing-on fee to compensate him - presumably £6.76m, but not a penny more. Obviously they'll pay him a decent salary.

The £6.76m assumes Heinze is on £65,000 per week. Not sure if its comes out for sure how much he is on, I've seen £50k, £55k and £65k quoted, so the "fee" could be anywhere between £5.2m and £6.76m.

Debtable whether he's worth the higher end of that scale. Personally I think he is. I think he's the best left back around, notwithstanding his poor finish to the season last year (just trying too hard to assert himself after injury IMO and started playing without thinking what he was doing).

PHB made a good point earlier that he has stated in the past he prefers CB. But now that the Argies have finally started playing him at LB rather than CB, I think he'll accept that LB is his best position - albeit he's still well able to cover at CB.

    Sunday's gossip, always the best/worst!!

Liverpool will not sell Peter Crouch for less than £20m. (News of the World)

But that may not put off big-spending Manchester City, whose new manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is keen to land the 6ft 7ins hitman. (Sunday Mirror)

Liverpool will continue their shopping spree with the £15m capture of Roma's Alessandro Mancini. (Sunday Mirror)

Man Utd are desperate to block Liverpool's move for Gabriel Heninze even though the Reds are willing to pay the £6m asking price. (Sunday Mirror)

David Moyes is upset with his bosses after they turned down his request for a new Mercedes. The Everton boss argued that Andy van der Meyde has a Ferrari even though he's not a first-team regular but his complaints fell on deaf ears. (People) :(:(:(:D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

have to say i do love crouchie but i'd bite the hand off anyone offering 20m. still dont like Heinze and I am unsure of Mancini. but still in rafa we trust!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

I think Heinze would be a good signing, I've always liked him, someone who puts in the effort will always be a fan favorite. He can cover CB and LB which is what we want.

If City are silly enough to bid 20m for Crouch, We should take it, and invest in a winger.

Vorinin looked sharp yesterday, and Gerrard/Alonso looked good too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

If you can belive the owners there is only one more signing likely and I reckon it'll be for defender myself. Hard to justify spending 15 mill on Mancini with Babel on board even if they are somewhat different in terms of finished articles. As for Crouch - NO!

    Mike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,508 ✭✭✭Daemonic

Have to agree, if Man City offer that much we'd be silly not to accept. But Rafa seems to have Crouch in his plans and the deal would still depend on Crouch accepting a contract from them. If he has any sense he'd run a mile from the Sven/MC circus.

Argentina used to play a 3-5-2 in the world cup, where Heinze was part of the central defence, but on the left side of it. Not sure what they are playing in the Copa America.
IMO, Heinze is a pretty darn good left back, but as a CB for United wasn't that good. He was unable to deal with teams attacking him at pace on the counter (say Milan), but that won't be as much an issue for Liverpool as they tend not to committ as much forward like United do, hence the issue won't arise.
If Heinze went into the CB position, I think he'd really add to Liverpools defence. There are also rumours floating around that he is going to do a 'tell-all' after he leaves, which could be very interesting. Apparently United are doing all they can to stop him from choosing Liverpool, including get old players to try and explain the problems with it (apparently Veron!) However, apparently the earlier interest from Real or Inter has cooled, so Liverpool look quite likely.

What really surprises me though, is that I thought the G14 had agreed between themselves not to use this new rule?

Had to laugh at the "Heinze convinced me to join Utd" storys in the papers during the week about Tevez. Surely if Heinze was advising him he'd have told him to join Liverpool (or another team he might be joining) Especially if there is any truth in the "tell-all" rumours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Surely if Heinze was advising him he'd have told him to join Liverpool

    Heinze from Manutd.com
"I told him that he is going to receive a lot of help to make progress," Heinze said. "It is a team that gives you a lot of prestige, both personal and professional. And he is going there at the right time. He is 23 years old so what else could he ask for?

"It makes me feel very happy that Tevez might come to United. If everything goes okay he will be joining an amazing club. He will arrive to a team that always draws up the highest objectives and where your only concern is to play football, because all the rest is taken care of."

What a difference two weeks makes! Just back from my holliers, and I discover we've wrapped up the signing of Torres and added Babel and Benayoun as well.

I don't think I've seen Babel play, and accounts are often conflicting. He seems to be a right-footed left wing-forward, so who knows where he'll fit into our line-up. With his apparent eye for goal, I'd assume he'd play on the left and cut inside onto his right.

Benayoun is still very much an unknown quantity for me. He's looked sharp when I've seen him, but he was a big fish in a small pond. Still, not a bad bit of business as he can provide cover in all our problem positions up-front.

It sounds like there's one more signing to come. I'd take Heinze for the £6 million. His first season with Utd was excellent, and he was unlucky last year with injuries. Whether the move will go ahead is anyone's guess though.

    On a different note:

There was literally hundreds and hundreds of posts in this thread since I last checked it two weeks ago. Reading through them, they covered everything from transfer signings, to reserve games, Rafa's beard to Carragher's phone calls - interspersed all too frequently with trollish fans of other clubs dragging the thread into arguments that nobody has any interest in.

So, what about a Liverpool Supporters forum? It'd give a bit more structure to the discussions, and hopefully cutdown on all the childish arguing and bickering that frequently hijacks this thread.

Heinz to Liverpool LOL these are the same papers that in the past have said manu were after fowler and gerrard at some point in time and of course owen....his contract is entering its last 2 years and wants a new one when he comes back..that why he has to clear up his futrue when he gets back..he is 29 so it will be the last big contract. And as for those fine "journalists" of the tabloids who said he wasnt 1st choice left back at manu anymore...it was interesting to see fergie pick him ahead of a fit evra for the fa cup final. A tell all book?? He has never come out saying anyting about liverpool just that he was proud to be linked with them. and his hardly gonna leave manu cause he is not guaranted 1st team football and go to a team were ...his not guaranteed 1st team football! I remember when u got Gerrard Houlier as manager the same papers said zidane and rivaldo were joing liverpool as fact...LOL

aurelio is gonna miss the start of the season it seems.

Not an ideal start for the season then. If the Heinze deal does go through Aurelio's injury might give him the oppertunity to possibly cement a place at LB unless Rafa goes with Riise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Hmm, maybe Heinze is a smokescreen and there's gona be a cheeky bid for Chivu after his moves to Barca, Real and Inter fell down.

Is there any other Liverpool fans getting sick of that expression? I'm very happy with Rafa so far as manager (for the most part), but the image of Liverpool fans being a collection of mindless sheep comes to mind every time. Part of being a Liverpool fan to me is giving people a chance - excessively so with some players - but mindlessness is not the good side of that coin.

  • Registered Users Posts: 143 ✭✭Waster

Chivu only has a year left on his contract at Roma as far as I know and isn't on great wages. Roma would want a large fee but the prospect of losing him for nothing next year might make them more realistic. I reckon he could do a good job for us at left back and fill in at centre back if needed. Plus he's a free kick specialist, which we lack.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,731 ✭✭✭el rabitos

    incorrect. right.

so heinze moves to liverpool without any signing on fee and his agent gets no percentage of the fee involved in the move. i'm failing to see the appeal of a move to liverpool for the heinze camp.

clearly liverpool will be paying the 6.8 or whatever million, plus a signing on fee, so in reality the deal is still a bit of a rip off for pool.
I think he's the best left back around

he's not even regarded as the best lb at utd ffs, never mind anywhere else.

if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. liverpool need to stop buying monkeys.

i wouldnt say it is mindlessness but he knows what he is doing and while i do question some decisions I am in no position to question his transfers at the moment as i dont know what system he will be playing this year. also i am fairly happy with the transfers so far so i am not going to complain.

and its only an expression dont be so anal.
