Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

EUR 16m + Dudek, Zenden & Barragan is apparently what we've offered. So same kinda of cash amounts as we offered for Alves with a couple of surplus players thrown in + one who seems set to head back to Spain anyway.

Did we not only buy Barragan in the last year or two ?

Yeah, he's only there a year, and got some really good reviews. Dunno... maybe he got homesick or something... or maybe we really need the money, and getting rid of deadwood like Dudek and Zenden off the wage bill is one way to do it.

    Re Barragan
It seems Liverpool will retain a buyback option over the 19 year old.

    Re Joaquin
Would bring plenty of excitement, and probably plenty of frustration too. Personally I'd prefer Alves, but beggars and all that......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

Joaquin is a fat lazy chump, who rarely produces what he's capable of. I'd take Alves over him, but ultimately would give time to any player who puts on the red shirt.

Rafa has his list, and Parry is bumbling his way through them.

Wheres the Champs League money, wheres the domestic money, where the hell is all the money from sponsor, shirt sales etc.

The exact percentage changes from year to year, but at least 60% of income is spent on player wages. Even Jimmy Traore is probably on 1million+ a year.

I doubt we're just breaking even though.

Anyway, we shall see whats signed.

Twinkle toes 'Jimi with a D'. Haven't heard much talk about him for a while. Doesn't seem to be any more rumours of him leaving. Anyone heard anything

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭yom 1

Apparently Madrid and Barca have started a bidding war for Djimi - Madrid are slightly edging it at the moment only looking for 2.5m to take him from us!:p

It seems liverpool are back in for joaquin. Hopefully liverpool can get one of either alves, simoa or joaquin.

yeah today was the day for the hearing. The results wont be announced till its over and I would imagine they will have a press release when they back to Liverpool.

    Maybe 6:30pm for the answer.

the hearing doesnt really matter at this stage anyway, he's eligable for a spanish passport after living there 3 years.

he'll be a liverpool player this season one way or another, i'm sure he's training with the squad anyway.

So in the last two days, Liverpool have signed 2 left backs(one who can play in midfield) and a left winger?

Does that mean Riise is a goner?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 18,696 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kimbot

Great News about Gonzales, hopefully he can provide that little bit extra towards our attack!!
I don't know about Riise now but I would imagine he is still going to stay at anfield unless a very attractive offer came in for him!

I reckon Riise will be first-choice leftback while Aurélio gets introduced gently to the 'English style'.

Did't think Gonzales could play left-back or do you mean someone else?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,098 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

118 posts from me in this thread so far (well 119 now).

Anyway, great stuff about Gonzalez, hope he can reproduce the things i saw him do at Sociadad!

Doubt Riise will go if pool dont have to sell em, Paletta was bought as a central defender, it just so happens that he can play left as well, so that really leaves us with 2 lb's now (4 if you count warnock and Djimi, but im not), 4cb's and 2 rb's (assuming Kromkamp doesn't leave).

Pity to see Barrigan potentially being sold, really wanted him to only leave on a loan as he's really impressed in the reserves. Still though i guess the buy back clause is nearly just as good assuming there will be a set transfer free we can get him back at..anyone know about this?

Who is the other left back?

    Palletta is a centre back
    Aurillieo is a left back
    Gonzalez is a left winger.

I thought Palletta was a LB, but it appears he plays as both, but mainly a CB.

If these signings work out, all Liverpool need are two strikers to be a challenging team I think.

What happens next year when it's work permit renewal time for gonzalez? If he doesnt go back to international football will that not go against him?

Will he have a spanish passport before then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

So i guess the current squad is shaping up something like this....

    Reina/Dudek/Carson/Kirkland

    Finnan/Kromkamp Carragher/Palletta Agger/Hyypia Aurelio/Riise/Warnock

    Garcia/Gerrard Sissoko/Zenden Hamman/Alonso Kewell/Gonzales

    Crouch/Fowler/Cisse/Bellamy/La Tallec

Not too concerned about RW at the moment. Would like to see La Tallec, and maybe Cisse shifted out, and another forward brought in.

Ciise's going o loan back to france with a view to a permenant move. So fingers crossed. Would'nt shed any tears for le tallec.

Benitez also insisted Paletta could become one of the Premiership's finest defenders.
"Paletta is very tough and he's exactly the sort of player we need who will suit the Premiership," said Benitez. "He's more like Jamie Carragher than Sami Hyypia. This is good because we will have a balance in the style of defenders."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

    Reina/Dudek/Carson

    Finnan/Kromkamp --- Carragher/Palletta --- Agger/Hyypia --- Aurelio/Riise

    Garcia/Kewell
    Sissoko/Gerard/Alonso
    Zenden/Gonzales

    Crouch/Fowler/Bellamy/Pongolle

AFAIK, it doesn't need to be renewed every year, and would only need to be done again if we sell him to another english club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

Or if he's signing a new contract with us.

In other news, Morientes passed his medical earlier today http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/5150620.stm
