Dating a girl with herpes?

I dated a girl for three years and we broke up. We're still friends and think we might end up back together at some point. Truthfully, I still love everything about her. Well, almost everything...

I just found out yesterday (she told me) that she got infected with the HSV in her mouth. I don't know if it's HSV-1 or HSV-2 because I didn't think to ask.

Now, I know that if I really love her that this shouldn't matter, but I'm finding that I'm still bothered by it.

We've had lots of big relationship obsticles to this point, so why not throw some herpes into the mix. I swear to god everything that can strain a relationship has happened in this one...

Mentally, it just seems strange that every so often I wouldn't be able to have physical contact with her, and on top of that, even when there are no visible symptons I'd know I can still contract the virus.

How have you guys dealt with this situation?

Forgive my ignorance, but are you talking about coldsores?

    Aren't cold sores herpes simplex?

If this were PI i'd reccomend you talk it out with her.

Pretty much everyone I know has "herpes" of the mouth. If you've ever had a coldsore then you have it too.

LOL, if a cold sore is a 'big relationship obstacle', maybe you should think about becoming a priest.

If you do decide to give it a whirl, just bear in mind that at certain times of the year you'll have to go elsewhere for your blowjob fix.

Yes, a "cold sore" is typically Herpes Simplex Virus 1 located in the mouth.

Both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can be found in both the mouth and genitals. Both can also be transmitted from mouth to genitals, and genitals to mouth.

A ha! This is the problem for you isn't it?

My apologies, I glanced over the forum categories and must have missed that one. There are quite a few of them...

What I meant was that we've had previous "relationship obsticles", I wasn't implying that herpes was at the top of the list, but mearly that it is now on the list.

It's not just BJ's that I'd have to worry about. I can contract the virus by kissing her even when there is no visible outbreak (called Asymtomatic Transmision or "Viral Shedding"). Not only do I contract the virus, but there is a possibility that I could transmit the virus to her genitals. We could both end up with the virus both in our mouths and genitals.

I have that virus since as long as I can remember. My wife doesn't. We don't spend our time in isolation tanks. Don't let it bother you so much. You just have to be a little bit carefull when she breaks out in a cold sore, other than that it shouldn't be an issue. It's more common than you think.

If she infects you with herpes, get the bitch back with AIDS.

    I don't :)

If your immune system is in good shape, you get less outbreaks (although I dunno if you can actually clear the virus completely from your body).

You'll have to approach this Pokemon style. Just catch a bad dose of syphilis or chlamyidia, then infect her and let your chosen virus battle it out with the herpes!!

*You may also want some Japanese pop music playing in the background while you do this, just for added authenticity. Also don't forget to give your virus commands on what attack to do next e.g "Sticky coloured discharge attack!!"*

I personally wouldn't touch a girl with Herpes with a long barge poll. Best thing to do is scream "UNCLEAN , UNCLEAN , UNCLEAN" the next time you see her, she'll get the message.

You could buy her a present, like a bell or something, so that she can ring it as she goes around town, warning people off.

This thread has proven to be both worrying and hilarious in equal measure.

I like this idea. Maybe a big battery powered neon sign above her head too, with the words, 'STAND BACK, I HAVE THE CLAP'

    Quoted for truth.

Alternatively, get her hooked on heroin, by injecting her as she sleeps.

    Haha... gotta catch 'em all!

OP you must be joking? Over 80% of people get cold sores so you'll have a hard time finding a girlfriend who never gets them (I don't but most of my friends do). I'm sure they all manage perfectly fine.

Cover her head in cling-film. Sorted.

lol, i started getting cold sores when i was about 4 years old, and as far i know i have never given anyone genital herpes. you can catch it just as easily from drinking from a cup in work that hasnt been washed properly, from the the swimming pool or a bottle of beer in the pub, jaysis man, if this is the only thing stopping you from being with your wan, you shouldnt be with her at all

OP you should know better than to put a PI issue on AH. We have a sense of humour here that will not quit. Just don't kiss and tell...

Are you sure she has herpes? Maybe she just needed to know that you'd stay.

    Kill yourself.

Or, just don't kiss her (OR ANYTHING) until it's sorted..... however it is that herpes gets sorted.....
