Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is it possible to install Office 2007 alongside other versions of office or does 2007 take over everything?

not sure about the rest of it... but outlook 2007 doesn't like any other versions of outlook on the machine and nukes it...

It's possible to install separate version of office onto a machine, but it's tricky and pain-ridden at best.

Certain parts of office use default storage locations and other files, and so will interfere with eachother and "upgrade" the files used, etc. As stakey points out, it's most likely that your older version of Outlook will be unusable or corrupt.

not to mention the common files and shared dll's and that if you reinstall or add/remove one of the earlier versions of office it usually breaks the later version , but a quick repair/reinstall should solve that

Thanks for the replies - I have read that the new office is quite different to the current version so just thought it might be an opportunity to learn a bit before I took the plunge.

If your machine can handle it, install a virtual machine. Vmware or MS Virtual PC will do it.

Licences not withstanding, this will let you install a test PC in a virtual environment running within your existing copy of Windows. You can install Office 2007 on that copy of windows and test it without risking your existing environment.

Office 2007 is generally a very different prospect to 2003. Outlook underwent a major revamp between 2000 and 2003, so it actually hadn't been changed that much (compared to Excel and Word), although the editor window for mail is modelled on the new Word editor window, so that's quite different.

If you're comfortable with Word and Excel, all of your existing keyboard shortcuts will work just fine. You can choose to only upgrade certain aspects of office - so you could just upgrade Word and Excel to 2007. Then decide if you like it or not and remove the 2007 version of Word and Excel, or upgrade the rest of the office package to 2007 if you like it.
