Achilles bursitis. Any good Sports Physicians?

I've been diagnosed with Achilles bursitis, or the inflammation of the heel bursa.

It flared up after the Bupa 10k run in Phoenix park and I've been resting ever since, so it's been about 7 weeks now without running. At first I couldn't even walk properly, I was just hobbling, but now at least I can walk mostly pain-free.

However, the healing process seems to be really slow, and my physio is saying that it's taking too long and referred me to a sports physician. He's advising me to go for a cortisone injection.

After reading up about it on the web it looks like a very risky procedure that could end up with a tendon rupture, and then I won't even be able to walk. Not a risk I'm prepared to take!

Also the sports physician that he referred me to seems to be an overconfident cowboy, as I found out from other people that he simply milked them for money and didn't help them in the end.

Has anyone else had this condition? How long does it take, did you have to get a cortisone shot etc?

And does anyone have a sports physician they can recommend?

    Any help is much appreciated!
