    They could take the car from you. Just make sure you have your lisence with you and a receipt for the car and they should be sound with you but you could get one thats having a bad day

    Yes, you will be given a few days grace, but hold on to a receipt as proof of recent purchase. Most Gards are very reasonable about things like this.

    The dealer or previous owner will have to send the change of ownership form (which you signed) off to the DOE in Shannon. It takes about 2 - 3 weeks for them to post you out the new VLC with your name and address on it as the new registered owner. You can then go into your local Motor Tax office and tax the car.

    As others have said in the mean time keep the receipt of purchase with you in the car in the event you are stopped at a garda checkpoint. Also if parking in town use a car park as you could still receive a ticket for not displaying a current valid tax disc. While you can have this overturned afterwards, it is still hassel that can easily be avoided.
