Just wondering what people think the PDs should do now to resurrect their party?

Some political commentators say they should go into another coalition with FF. But the party was founded in an effort to clean up politics and tackle corruption. Since their foundation they have usually been playing watchdog, in or out of government. But being a watchdog who protects FF is what they seem to have become in the eyes of the electorate. The trappings of power also seem to have swayed them away from being so critical of FF, and they have become complacent. I think a while away from the partnership with FF would be their best tactic and let the public see that they are actually a unique political party rather than a part of FF. It would also allow them recover their niche which is so critical to the survival of small parties.

In government they have a chance to rebuild. In government they will get disproportionately far more media attention for their size. Specially if they manage to fix the hospitals issue.

In opposition they would end up disappearing and getting wiped out. With just 2 TD's they would get zero media attention and therefore "out of sight, out of mind".

Which is all they deserve. They were all but wiped out, now let them lick their wounds in opposition and disappear.

With no leaders allowance and no speaking time they will promptly wither and die.

Wrap it up and rejoin FF.

Mind you, in coalition with FF in this government they will wield a lot of power. Bertie needs those two votes.

Mary needs a nice easy post though. Health and Education are poison chalices. The PDs need something that they can succeed at to resurrect themselves.

They need a less controversial leader and they need to sort out their stand on the Mahon Tribunal allegations for once and for all.
