Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Connecting a 2nd PC - Wired or Wireless?

    Hi all,

I am fairly knowledgeable with regards hardware, but wireless hardware is not something I am too familiar with, any help would be appreciated.

Basically, main computer is upstairs, connected to an eircom netopia wireless modem/router. Want to have a second PC downstairs for general surfing, light gaming, no heavy downloading or streaming. There is a phone socket there and I have my old netopia wired modem/router lying around. I don't know what the situation is with having more than one router on the one line.

I was thinking of a PCI wireless card, but most hardware sites that I frequent seem to pass over these in favour of the more glamorous CPU/GFX cards.

    Thanks!

P.S. Routing cable over the house or thru the walls would not be possible, my mum would hit the roof!

Cool, any make/model that stands out as being reliable, good range, etc.

not really, they should all be fine for web browsing etc.
if your going the wifi route and pc is up against a wall ina corner,
id recommend a usb dongle that is attached via a cable so that you can place it on top of your desk.
i had a pci wifi card that couldnt receove a signal because it was in a corner

Interesting. Yeah it will be against a wall in one of those desk/study fittings you can get built.

I'd echo what subway said above. Having a USB wifi card on an extension cable will allow you to move it around to get a good signal.

As gor good brands: Linksys, Netgear, Dlink. Avoid Belkin. Complete shite

Yeah I was told belkin are pants. I was hoping for something on hardwareversand.de as I'm buying a few things off them already. My OCUK order has shipped so I have literally missed that boat.
