Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey folks,

I'm not sure if this is a common thing, but we're trying to sell our Punto on CarZone.ie and we were contacted by a dodgey buyer, so just wanted to give a heads up for the less discerning of sellers!

We put the ad on carzone.ie, and the next day were contacted by text message by someone called Roy Morgan saying he was highly interested in the car, and wanted us to email him more details to his email address, which we did earlier on today.

Got the following reply a few minutes ago.......
    Hello,
I am so happy you got back to me.. that shows how serious you want to sell this to me and please I want you to consider it sold to me...
According to the Car.. I am ok with the details i got and I am willing to buy it for your last asjing price....
If you care to know what I do...
I am into buying and selling of used Car... I repair them and make them look more attractive for my customers.. I am based in the UK, north london to be precise... But now.. I plan expanding my chain of business by coming down here to west africa... I have been here for a while now and the business is moving on well here as I make more profits .. So, I will be needing the Car here in africa... My Method of payment will be by Cheque which will clear in 3 to 5 days.. I have my own personal shipping agent who will take care of the shipment after the cheque has cleared into your account....

So let me hear back from you then I can proceed with the payment...

    Roy...

Seems a tad suspect to me! Or maybe I'm paranoid ¬_¬ I'll let ye decide, but the bloke's email address is roymorgan19@gmail.com, and I think his mobile number started with +23 or somethin like that (it wasn't 086/7/8 anyway).

Yet another Nigerian scam, what a waste of space these idiots are.

Fair play for picking up on it, not paranoia, just common sense, and goes to show that the message is getting through to people.

    Just ignore it.

Avoid like the plague. The cheque will bounce and you'll have no money and no car.

    Obvious scam.

This is an old one, I'm surprised they are still using it to be honest.

I got about three dodgy calls the last time I was selling online, some eastern european guy had 'just' had his car stolen and needed to buy 'right away' wanted to arrange to meet that evening, had cash etc. etc.

Best ones were those twats in England who call you, an agency, saying they have a buyer for your car. I kept one on the line for about ten minutes and then said:

"I feel sorry for you and your Mum and Dad."
    "Er...sorry sir...?"
"I said I feel sorry for you and your Mum and Dad. I bet neither you nor they thought you'd grow up and end up telling lies for a living, you pi55 artist. Now f**k off."
    And I hung up.

    Yeah right, says I.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Yet another Nigerian scam

Indeed. Some people sick and tired of all those scumbag Nigerian frauds have taken it upon themselves to strike back. Some of them are very funny. Linkey. My all time favourite :D

A friend of mine recently bought a car from ebay (in the UK).

Co-incidentally this car has turned up for sale on Carzone, complete with pics and some of the description from ebay! The price on Carzone is a little too good to be true... it's by far the cheapest of all the cars of that model/year.

I emailed the "seller" who told me he and the car are in Slovenia, and gave me a tall story about how he had to move there for work, and how the dealers will give him nothing for it there, being RHD. He would arrange shipping. He also suggested we use the Ebay Vehicle Purchase Protection Plan for payment, which does not apply outside of ebay! I suspect that the link to this "ebay" site he would have sent was where the fraud would actually have taken place, in that it would have looked the part but would have been a phishing site.

Meanwhile the legit owner contacted Carzone to tell them about this fraudulent listing... and 5 days later the listing is still there!

My advice: if a Carzone listing looks a bit too good to be true, it probably is. Avoid. The muppets at Carzone will do nothing about it.

Last time i advertised my car on CBG.ie, i got an email from a guy who wanted to export my car abroad, and was going to pay me by cheque AFTER i put the car on the ship abroad.

So i promptly signed his email address up for some beastiality porn and left it at that.

    Beware

I too have a car for sale on cars Ireland. I received the exact same message from this guy. he was really interested in the car and needed it for his wife who is pregnant. likewise telling me he would pay by cheque and his shipping company would collect the car as soon as the cheque cleared in my account as he was away in Norway. He was even offering me €200 more than my asking price. I have to say he nearly had me but thank god something clicked and my sister done the check on him and came up with the information on him.
