Does a 1994 Transit normally have power steering?

I used to (briefly) own a 91 Ducato without power steering and front wheel drive ...granted it was a bit heavy for tight maneuvres, but the steering wheel was nice and big, so it was manageable. Once you're rolling you don't need it anyway.

I also drove a 1990 Hymer for about 5 years which was based on the Talbot Express - Front wheel drive & no Power steering. It was a bit heavy for parking but I really had no problem with it. Her indoors was fine once the camper was moving but tight manouvers were a problem.

    Hi Benny,

I have an 86 VW Westfalia without power steering. The key factors are tyre width and steering wheel diameter. The PO in Germany had fitted really wide 60-profile tyres and a cute small Audi steering wheel. It was a horrible beast to park but fine on the motorway naturally.

Solution was to change back to the ugly but big VW steering wheel and go for narrower 70-profile tyres. Problem solved and the road noise has been dramatically reduced by changing the tyres.

Simple answer is: if you and your OH can both park it then it's fine. No power steering means less to go wrong. Remember: more guts, more bellyache.
