Just finished the interview there. They will (or won't) be letting me know this week. Anyone confirmed yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭Shadowless

Not yet. They rang me about 15 minutes ago to set up the "screening"!

    Is it tough?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 309 ✭✭SuperHans

It's tough enough to answer the probability questions over the phone, but they're certainly doable. Lasted around 50 mins for me so the oul flexitime took a bit of a battering!

8 first class honours in third year electronic and computer engineering this year and I have never gotten a probability question wrong in my life. They said my background and qualifications are impressive, we are unable to offer you a place in the tournament and are looking for canditates more suitable for their positions etc, probably a standard reply. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned I'm currently working as a software tester. Too bad, as the interview would have been so simple. Good luck to those who play!

Lol Tar thats the same reply I got, feck that.......and I felt special :)

My background is three years computer aided and mechanical engineering with an average of a 2.2 (not bad.....but not too good). I was a poker dealer for like 3 years and still on-going. I set up a bloddy poker society and ran it for like 2 years, its huge now! Class (nerd) Rep for 3 yrs. I also ran a chairty casino night in which 1000 people attend..........impressive but not what we are looking for!?

    THEY CAN KISS MY ASS!!!

lol at the engineering fury :D

I hardly mentioned Poker in my CV. From the people I know who got through, it seems to be experience in quant finance they're looking for. Won't make a blind bit of difference if I don't pass this bloody screening mind...

I guarantee that you will pass, you may not win the tourney, but you will get a place in the tournment.

I didn't mention finance, if they wanted finance people, why mention engineering? Also a friend has an interview from my course. We had a finance exam this year, I answered 75% of the paper, got bored and left, got 74%. What more do you want Sesquwatcha. Feel Engineering wrath! :)

There was a poster that said you could start as high as 55 - 60k. All well and good - but you will fcuking earn that sort of money, and rightly so. You would have to say goodbye to a non - work social life (and the opportunity to play much poker!!) for quite some time.

You'd have to pay tax on it too.

    I'm in too.
It occured to me that I don't know whether I should dress for a job interview (suit) or a poker tournament (T-shirt and jeans).

What are you guys doing? Anyone going to do some study on finance-y subjects beforehand, or are you in it for the poker?

I got a phone call on Friday saying I was in but I've yet to receive an email. Anyone else get an email?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6 phaedrus_zen

Great game, strong players almost to a man there.
We split it 4k 3k and 3k in the end, since it was turning into a crap shoot. I was lucky enough to walk out with 3k myself, with a possible shot at getting a job with SIG (or at least an internship, maybe).

Haven't got a freaking clue what I'll do with the money.

I'm not "been smart", I meant what I said. The standard of poker played in that tournament was excellent.

if you think it was excellent - thats cause u won 3K it was terrible if you are to be honest, i'm not just saying it, 2 different ppl in the thread below said "Ye the standard was a lot worse than I expected.", and "Standard was shocking" ,
