Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Trezeguet set to leave Juventus

It’s open warfare between David Trezeguet and Juventus. “This club does not respect me. I will leave and take my 140 goals with me.”

The Frenchman is renegotiating his contract, which expires in 2008, but caused controversy during this afternoon’s 3-2 Serie B defeat to Spezia.

When scoring his 15th goal of the season, he celebrated with an offensive gesture to the President in the stands, making the Italian signal for ‘15’ and then ‘I’m out of here.’

“This club does not respect me. They made a proposal that made me understand they have already made other choices,” said Trezeguet to the Press after the Serie B trophy presentation.

Since joining in 2000, the former Monaco man has become Juve’s all-time
top foreign scorer with 140 goals.

“I have done what Didier Deschamps asked of me: 15 goals. I was here for seven years and in that time earned the trust of over 14 million fans all over the world, plus the confidence of my teammates.

“Unfortunately, the club has a different viewpoint to mine, so I will leave and take my 140 goals with me, safe in the knowledge I have always given my contribution.

“There is no margin for negotiation now. If they had just told me I wasn’t wanted that would have been better than offering me a ridiculous contract. Perhaps someone has doubts over my abilities. I wanted to carry on with Juve, but the club doesn’t want me.”

Surely there will be a handful of Premiership clubs watching this very closely?

If he goes, and he will - he has not resigned a contract due to expire in 2008 - he will be replaced by Huntelaar (according to Calciomercato.com), not a bad bit of business I'd say.

I think he's a cracking player, and his goal scoring record can't be doubted.

Personally I'd be happy to see him at United, he'd be what we need, and be relatively cheap.

Exactly the type of player United are looking for. Id take him over some of the crap we've been linked with as of late...

I would propose Arsenal but then anytime himself and Henry play together....well it's not pretty. Think World Cup 2002.

didnt they win world cup 98 and the 2000 euro's together?

wouldnt mind him at pool, he knows where the goal is, a place that has almost become a myth to some of our current crop at times

No, in 98, believe it or not, Stephane Guivarch' (however its spelt, remember him, that guy that joined Newcastle?? Of course u dont!!) was the number 1 striker and Aime Jacquet would bring on one of Trezeguet or Henry later in the games. France were lucky that they had quality in other areas so they could score without having a good striker.

    Quarter Final : Laurent Blanc
    Semi Final: 2 from Thuram
Final: 2 from Zidane, 1 from Petit

In 2000, Henry was 1st choice with Trezeguet coming off the bench (as he did to win the final with the golden goal)

When they play together they are a disaster, far too similar, no link play and make the same runs. I remember in the last WC they had the 2 of them together and nothing for 60 mins, then Saha came on for Trezeguet and was on for approximately 30 seconds and laid off a header for Henry to score.

As for Trez to United, probably a better option than Anelka, but wouldnt be nuts about it to be honest with ya.

I wouldn't like either of them either, but if i had to pick one, i'd say Anelka is probably a better choice, simply because he has proven himself in England!

But in all fairness, Trez is a much much better goalscoring than Anelka.

Hmmmmm, I dunno. Yea he had a trailblazing season for Arsenal, but has he hit a 20 a season since? Plus hes notoriously difficult. Trezeguet consistently hit 20 a season in Italy, a league notorious for having defence that are tighter than ducks backsides........ Im not a big fan of Trez but Id take him over Anelka.
