Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey folks,

I am dreadful at applying fake tan and I was wondering if all of you have any tips??

Especially when it comes to the hands & feet area..
Do you apply it to your neck? God I am terrible and hate walking around all streaky!!

You need to use gloves when applying tan.
When I do the tan on my hands afterwards, I put on a bit of moisturiser afterwards. After years of tanning, I generally don't have major hand accidents anymore.

Does the moisturiser prevent that streaking on the hands and feet??

How far would you go up the neck area?

you can get a mit in most chemists too, that what i use, cos i cant get a hang of the gloves.
the moisturiser makes it it easier to spread around the fingers and toes..make it less blotchy.

I cant use gloves either, i find it very hard to rub the tan into the skin with them. The orange mitts are the best and can be washed & re-used, although i find they are hard when you wash them!

Re feet & hands, always tricky - i find if i moisturise my hands and feet first, then tan my body, the end with hand & feet by putting tan on a cotton pad and wiping it over gently. Also for this areas you might try a moisturiser with a hint of self tan instead like the new st tropex everyday thats out or Dove.

Start at the ankles, and work your way up, wearing a pair of surgical gloves. Rub on the tanning lotion in a circular motion with medium pressure. Use less on your knees and elbows. Leave your hands and feet until last, and put a little bit of the lotion on a makeup pad, and skim it over your hands and feet, lightly. This will prevent streaks.

I recommend L'Oreal Sublime Spray- a natural looking tan that can be darkened with use. About €15 and lasts well.

I do my neck and face. Always think it looks better. Use a lighter tan on the face from the jaw line up though.

I don't wear gloves but work fast and wash my hands in between body parts. Streaks are caused by rubbing up and down vertically - you need to rub in a circular motion. Imagine you're putting on body lotion but want to get dressed in a mi nute - you want to rub it in really well so that it dries.

Legs are hard, never mind feet, so I'd recommend you look at the product you're using. I only use St Tropez mousse or Lancome mousse on my legs because I mess everything else up! I start the application mid-calf and then work it downwards over the ankle and foot; just a quick rub because those bony areas really seem to soak up the colour. Make sure you've exfoliated the bejaysus out of your ankles beforehand too. Obviously then I continue the application upwards but with only a quick glance over the knee too. Another tip is to moisturise your ankles, knees and elbows beforehand so the moisturister will dilute the fake tan.

Then for hands I either use the mousse on a cotton wool pad, or I use an aerosol spray that you don't have to rub in. Moisturiser on the knuckles can be good here too. I always lash on some hand cream afterwards just in case I haven't managed to get it all off when washing my hands.

Always tan your face - people look ridiculous going around with white faces and brown bodies.
