Mobile Broadand, what are the options?

First of all is mobile broadband as great as it sounds? can you get similar speeds to that of landline broadband and does the coverage depend on location or is it the same across the network? Who are the present providers? I hear O2 are coming into the market, any word on what they're going to offer?
