I had a meeting with the RPA today to discuss various matters.

One point that came up was people cycling in front of trams. This is quite selfish as one (or more) person is holding up a tram holding hundreds. The tram drivers also find it quite frustrating.

Another point is that it can be quite unsafe to overtake a tram, even if it is stopped, as there may be a tram travelling in the other direction. Trams can't swerve out of the way and the gap between two parallel trams is insufficient.

Which sections of the Luas routes would this apply to? There's a section at St. James' hospital where you have to ride along the tracks - any others?

I think its primarily the Heuston - Connolly section which is tram only.

They can't object to the Thomas Street / James Street section.
