Lough Ree (Shannon)

Hi all,

I am new to trout fishing and am going to lough ree for some lake trout tomorrow.

I don't know what to use? I'll be trolling.

Please help meeeeee!

Please name the lure/jig and method.

, where abouts are you launching ,im in athlone meself

for trolling at this time of year its hard to say , tasmanian devils in green and gold , blue and gold , grey , rasta

7cm rapalas, brown trout , rainbow trout , any of the holo colours , some of the biger versions can be killer too

expect to catch lots of piddly perch too , and theres a very good chance of hooking a pike too , so use strong tackle and a wire trace , the trout arent put off by this so dont worry , and please return any pike caught

I always catch and release, if I get a trout I'll take it over 14 inches of course.

I usually get a few pike but VERY rarely Trout.

I don't really get much Perch at all?

I use Braid on one rod and 9lb line on the other with a wire trace.

And what do you mean by "holo"?

PS: What type of Rap's do you use? Full or jointed? and from what series like x-rap, countdown etc...

Was quite a bad day unfortunatley, Not much people on the lake either.

23 Perch
0 pike?

0 pike is quite strange actually???

well at this time of the year its not hard to get no pike on lough ree , ya need to be there in aither april or october

any decent perch?

Perch was mostly quite small a few were up to about 400g though.
I was on lough ree on Sunday too and caught 0 perch and 7 pike?!!
