I have VPN set up on my home laptop and it is connecting succesfully to work server. How do I actually get at my work files now?

\\ipaddress

or \\computername

So you go to start - run type \\whatever
press ok.

Of course you need to be able to access the files from your local network in the first place so make sure they are shared out.
You may also run in to authentication issues, thats another kettle of fish though.
