Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bishops call for speedier public transport
    Wednesday, 13 June 2007 15:50

The Catholic hierarchy has said the incoming Government should ease pressure on families by providing speedier public transport.

Archbishop Dermot Clifford of Cashel said commuting parents were tired at the end of their working days and a good train service in greater Dublin would allow them more time with their families.

At their quarterly general meeting in Maynooth, the 33 Irish bishops expressed concern about the continuing gap between rich and poor, including those who find it increasingly difficult to afford a home.

Actually fair play to them. Usually when they make statements about public transport investment it's nearly always about funding grannies on free travel passes in Mayo. This time they actually 'get it' and understand why and where the public transport investment has to go.

As a side line, about 4 years back I wrote to all the political parties about this letting them know that within the Leinster region there was a vast, and virtually politically untapped population of people who had their family lives damaged by this car commuting culture and that only rapid and frequent public transit would stop this.

The only parties which wrote back to me were Fianna Fail, Greens and the PDs - kinda ironic now looking back.

Delighted with the outcome of this election actually. A T21 dream ticket in many ways. So fair play to the Bishops for keeping the heat on the new Government. T21 is so safe from the being destroyed by the public sector unions now.
