going to buy a toyota celica next couple of weeks...

    got a couple of questions...

is the beams tuned engine pumping out much more bhp than the standard SSIII?

are the jap imports easy enough to get parts for?

im looking to get around a 98 model and have up to 10k to spend...

a bit confused by your post the beams engine is in the ss-III

did you mean the beams engine in the ss-III versus the standard engine of the ss-II?

the ss-III has around 210bhp, the SSII model is rated at 180bhp,the SSI model is only 140bhp.

the ss-III usually has optional side skirts and other aero dynamic bits added on and the wrc spoiler.

some parts may be tough to get hold of, join an owners club and you'll get group buys for stuff in that, some of them may have super strut suspension that you get in the levins, this doesnt take to irish roads very well and can be costly to replace

definitely go for the ss-III more power better specced and insurance is probably not much extra

forgot to add, you'll be hard pushed to find any other colour but white which annoys me but might be your cup of tea?

not all SSIII are beams engine, the SSIII came out in 1997 and has superstrut suspension as standard, only an option on SSII.
the Beams SSIII came out in 1998 and is the engine, gearbox and LSD are the only differences.

Be carefull, i've seen a few SSIII on carzone.ie with only the 3SGE engine (175bhp), but people advertising them as Beams engine.
if the top of the engine isn't red and doesn't have Beams wrote on it then its not a Beams SSIII, but could still be a normal SSIII.

Yes be sure to check on the timing belt cover,it should say "YAHAMA BEAMS ENGINE"
(never seen a red top engine in the celica)

look at the sixth picture, if the engine isn't red like this one, then its not a beams engine.

the normal 3SGE engine has yahama made parts, and so may say yahama somewhere, doesn't mean its a beams engine.
