It's that time of year again, and I've been thinking of upgrading my Aopen EZ482 SFF Cube

    Current Spec

    CPU: Opteron 144 @ 2ghz
    GFX: GeForce 6800 (generic)
Ram: 2Gb G.Skill HZ Series DDR PC4000 (thanks awhir)
    HDD: 2 x Samsung 120Gb Spinpoints (SATA-1)

So what do you think ?

I'm thinking CPU + GFX, and possibly HDD if it makes a difference.

It's a low-noise SFF, so keep that in mind.

    opty 170 and a 8600gt with 2x 250/320gb samsung spin points.

You'll have to expand on that mate :)

Any particular reason for those 2 components, are they the best bang for buck atm ?

8600GT is definitely an improvement over a vanilla 6800, get a passive cooled version for no noise output or an overclocked version with fan.

I was looking at that passive cooled one as well :)

    I'm thinking

    Opty 170 - 185
    8800 GT

Hard drives, I think a 400-500Gb spinpoint as files drive, and reformat one of these other spinpoints as the OS drive.

They're all sataII, backward compatible with sataI mobos?

You might have a problem fitting a 8800 into the case if its a shuttle sized case. What i picked will give you the best bang for bucks for cheap money.

    Sorry meant that 8600 - http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=334401

Could be a problem alright, will google up some reviews and see if I can get measurements of the Heatsink.

    Cheers anti.
