Am I weird?

    I'm a girl. I'm 16. I don't have my ears pierced.

Is this totally weird? It's not that I haven't had the oppurtunity, I'm just not a big fan of piercings - even just on the ears. I mean earrings look great on girls but I was just never interested in getting my ears done as a kid (I know most normal girls have theirs done by the age of 11).

I'm also thinking its too late now - I'd be so embarrassed getting them done and what if I actually found it painful, or I passed out or something? That'd be all well and good if I was 11 but I'm 16 and have never had a piercing.

Guys, would you think it's weird if you dated/knew a girl who didn't have her ear pierced? (I'm hoping guys with no piercings/tattoos themselves will reply also)

    :o

Hell no, you're not weird at all, one of my friends only recently got hers done on her eighteenth birthday.

I have dated a couple of girls back when I was your age who did not have their ears pierced, and in all honesty, I never really thought about it.

As for the pain, it isn't that bad, I had under my lip done, and it wasn't bad at all (and I'm a big pussy ;) ) so don't worry about it, and if you want to, go for it it, if not don't.

Thanks but (and I dunno what age you are now) 5/10 years ago it probably was normal for girls to get it done when they're 18 but nowadays...

Well I don't know anyone who hasn't got their ears pierced.

I'm not trying to get attention from people here to say, or try to self indulge myself, just trying to see if there's any females out there who haven't got their ears pierced! I doubt it!

I kinda want to, but then again..the effort of having to change/keep earrings in day in/day out. And I'm really squeamish so putting them on would freak me out.

It's strange cos I really want to get a tattoo..

I'm 23 and don't have my ears pierced, and I don't think any guy I've gone out with has even noticed. I've certainly never thought it was strange in the slightest.
Even if it was widely percieved as odd (which IMO it isn't), that'd be no reason for you to make purely cosmetic modifications to your body that you weren't comfortable with.

eta cos I just saw your second post: I've had a few piercings in the past but don't plan to get any again, and I have a whole bunch of tattoos and am actively planning more. Piercings, on my own body, just gross me out in a way that tattoos don't. I think it's slightly unusual for someone into tattoos to not be into piercings, but it's not weird.

I'm 18, only two years older than you :)

It's true a lot of people have it done, but not everyone.

It's not really that much of an effort, it's like putting a seatbelt on in a car, you don't notice it. And as for putting them on, you won't feel the things going in after a couple of weeks.
It's strange cos I really want to get a tattoo..
Haha, me too, I'm hopefully getting one this summer.

I'm 19. I got my ears pierced at 16. Within 6 months I had 4 more piercings in my ears and my tongue done. Heh. Went a little overboard in that time. But 16 is definitely not too old. Once you get something done first the fear is gone and you'll feel a lot more confident. I haven't got a tattoo done so can't comment on that but I'd say the piercings could help with that too.

yeah, it's really weird. No guy is gonna date you now.

Porn_star you are only saying that cuz you wanna keep her to yourself ;)

Killaqueen its not odd at all, and to be honest, I'd be really surprised if any guy actually gave a rats ass whether your ears were pierced or not. Us guys tend to thing of other things...

And I have a tattoo, am planning more, and dont think I could ever get pierced... :o I dunno, am considering one, but I really dunno if I could go through with it!

How is it weird? Since when is it required that female's pierce their ears? Talk about buying into the stereotype :-s

I'm 20 and I've not got my ears pierced. I've had my eyebrow, my naval, my tongue and my nipple pierced, but never my ears. I just never thought it looked attractive on me.

It's not weird that you've never had your ears pierced and if you'd like to get it done go and get it done in Claire's, I've heard they're very proffesional!

OMG no guy will ever fancy you without holes in your ears :O

op guys care about your body and face and if they're worth even a penny, your personality and mind. i would laugh if a guy wouldnt go near me if i didnt have this or that peirced.

its not that sore, they'll numb it.

Where on earth still numbs earlobes when they're getting pierced?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,900 ✭✭✭rannerap

yeah i've never heard of a place that numbs for ears, even claires don't and they mostly cater to young kids

    To the OP:

If you're worried about getting them done now, you should go to a proper piercer who will do it with needles, etc, as I think you will feel better in the hands of someone who is a professional rather than a sales assistant wielding a piercing gun :)

Pain wise, there isn't a huge difference but I can tell you a needle feels a lot more pleasant than a blunt stud, and you will be guaranteed decent jewelry, advice, be made to feel at ease, and have someone to go back to if you have any worries afterwards should you go to a good studio. Claire's won't offer you this...

I got my ears pierced when I was 15, and by then I had it all worked up into a big deal. Hurts a little, but it's not searing pain or anything, over in half a second. You'd find it grand if you did get it done, but only if you yourself want to.

I got it done in the local beauty salon, which was nice because it was in a private room not in full view of everyone else, like it would be in Claire's.

Don't think anyone knows any good places that will tattoo an under 18 year old.

OP....Since when is it an obligation for girls to have pierced ears??? I'm 21 and i know plenty of girls the same age and older than me who have no earrings, and i never even thought about it until you mentioned it, and even now i couldn't give a sh*t tbh....

I'm 18 in the past 4 years i went throught this big obsession with piercings and tatoos and at one stage i had 15 piercings and then when i turned 18 i got my first tatoo i have removed all my piercings bar one (my belly button)

I Also used to work in claires accesories and he had forty year old women come in to get there's done

    the pain isent that bad

if all people have to be worried about is the fact that you dont have your ears pierced then we really are a nation of people far more shallow then i would have liked to think

    dont conform

i dont think its weird at all im 18 and have 5 piercings... 3 lip, my tongue and the top of my ear and a tattoo but was never bothered gettin my lobes done..its too boring:p

Getting anything pierced while numbed is a bad idea. it just makes it more painful afterwards and its pointless. a piercing only takes a couple of seconds. as for not having your ears pierced at 16, thats probably more original. I used to work in Piercing and sometimes people would come in all the time that didnt have any piercings and wanted to get their ears pierced. Go to a professional studio and don't go to somewhere dreadful like Claires. The people in there arent qualified and you're getting pierced with a stud not a needle. So just be careful because you don't want to get a bad infection cause it can be a bitch on your ear lobes.

Oooh. Which claire's did you work in?

Yeah. I worked there too (I know I know.). And I have to say the girls aren't trained very well. Like the whole procedure and all is easy but what do you do if someone faints or something? I've had several cases that could of ended up a disaster if it hadn't of been for my background knowledge in body mod.

Sorry btu gonna have to call you on this, if you had the background you claimed you had you wouldn't of done the work in the first place and reccomended the people go to a proper studio

Actually, most of the times I did say go somewhere else. But it was in my contract. And it was my job. I really didn't have a choice. I refused to do them for a while, but then they threatened to sack me so I didn't have a choice.

ok I see someone said that 10/11 was the norm for getting your ears pierced i was about 3 or 4 getting my ears pierced and I was about 10/11 when I got them done the second time.

My mother was shocked that i didn't cry or scream the place down like the girl before me, so much so that she got her ears pierced the same day.
