Good riddance to him he did a crap job. What type of environment minister wants to build more incinerators, answer, a poor one. He should be punished by being given drinking water from Galway. Some clypto speridium (probably poor spelling) would do him the world of good.

Perhaps you should look at the facts, he was a great Minister for the Environment, the latest figures (2006) show:

    - Landfilling down 9% in 4 years

    - Recycling of Electronic Waste showing ** 400% rise **

    - Construction and Demolition Waste recycling at high of 85%

    - 2013 Municipal Waste recycling targets to be met **8 years** ahead of target

    - EU Packaging Waste Targets smashed ahead of schedule

The water issue in Galway is entirely the Council's fault, in 2001 the Dept of the Environment allocated money for this very problem, Galway council never submitted plans to draw down this money.

Surely there is a need for waste to energy thermal treatment facilities in Ireland. We are out of step in this regard with the rest of Europe. The EPA has agreed to grant licences for thermal treatment facilities here and they are the best body to judge their safety etc.

He was paid well for doing a job, which in most areas was far behind where much of Europe. Smashing targets off zero bases reminds me of the teachers claims for kick starting the IT revolution some years ago. I mean, he was a gov minister within the civil service hierarchy and as such had little direct repsonsibility for achieving targets. Little vision and much mumbo jumbo much of the time. Personally, I'm glad he's gone, and hopefully the replacement will offer a little more vision but with greater sincerity and enthusiasm.

True Seanies32, but speaking as someone who lives near to a proposed incinerator, it is galling to know that an incinerator was never going to be put in Wicklow or South County Dublin...

    Yes, completely agreed.

    Or Poolbeg?

Indeed we have the same problems putting waste in the middle of nowhere in Donegal! Of course there are reasons for them opposing it, perfectly understandable, but?

I don't think the problem is that you, Kaylee will live near an incinerator, its that anybody will live near one!

So, we'll all export it, very Green? :)

At least in this Govt., FF/PD's won't be the only ones getting blamed for political tough decisions that can't please everybody? It's not a FF/FG/PD/lab point, just how does anybody please everybody on an issue like this?

Unfortunately it probably is a case of Greens, way you go to Environment and Energy, just like PD's with Health and Justice, see if you can do any better seeing as Govt. is about decisions?

What Greens are about in Govt. is can they actually do it better than than FF/PD's in Govt. or indeed Fg/LAB/Green/Ind in Govt. or indeed Green in opposition.

That is what they will be tested on at the next election.
