Just wondering, what's the main drive for people doing their exams right now?
Is it parental pressure,'The points race',personal ambition,or what?

For me,I guess it's just simply wanting to do my best and get my points to go to my college, since I've only applied for one course!

Hmm, well since I was little I've always done well in school... so there's a huge pressure on me to do good in these exams..

Also personal ambition to get the points that I need for my course...

    Parental pressure. All the way.

    Small part personal ambition.

Bit sad 18/19 year olds having parental pressure put on them!

    I study for myself.

I really want my first choice....so much so that I would be willing to kill people who have also chosen it as their first choice and have higher points than me.....you know just to improve my chances...... ¬.¬

On a COMPLETELY unrelated matter who here has chosen Business and Management in NUIM as their first choice and is planning on getting more than 420 points?Anyone at all?Come now don't be shy!!

Im 17, but thats irrelevant anyway.
Its more parentals expecting results that older brother and sisters got.
565 and 520 are a tad out of my reach

I'm going in to 6th year this september...how are you supposed to know what you want to do after it... other people seem to have a very clear definite picture of what they see there selfs doing n the future but me i dont.. i suppose id like to do engineering but how can you decide what type if you have never done it before? :/

The amazing feeling of walking around campus next september doing the one subject I like more than anything else!! I used get really stoked at the open days and had the visions of being there someday! Thatll hopefully be happening soon! :D

Don't worry, I wass in the exact same position... I just read all the prospectii etc. and picked the thing that sounded most interesting. Then at the open days it grew more and more on me so I decided to go with it... you still have months in any case.

As for engineering you can do undemoninated engineering and specialise after a year or two as far as I know :)

Nothings motivating me at the moment if I'm sitting here. On Monday, I've my final two exams. One at honours, one at ordinary. With a bit of luck, for Physics(OL) I may be able to scrap an A. Yet here I am sitting at the computer instead of studying for it.

Ah, just want to get over 400 points myself, and if not, just get my first choice course(Arts). Which means I really should study the last two subjects to make sure I get it. Oh, plus money for Belgium...great incentive!

Getting the points for my course. Its fairly high, so I've been working like crazy, just hoping it pays off.

Same here. My parents keep saying, "we just want you to do your best," but I know they'd be really disappointed if I didn't get over 500... which I need to get my course anyway, so what the hell.
Its basically just a personal thing. I so badly want my course, and I'll be damned if I repeat.
Lol, Enemy of Fate, I'm the exact same.

doing well is motivating me. I kinda want to get the best results I can, keep every option open to me!

Basically, I'm a pompous ass in class most of the time, thinking that I know everything, so if I don't do well I'll look like an idiot. Plus I need 560 for my course. And lots of pressure off the oul' parents too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 70 ✭✭Roonels

its the disappointing people factor, you know when people are saying like 'oh i bet you'll get like 550' etc....when you know your gonna do way worse than that...you start learning stuff. i just dont wanna see peoples face when i say ' oh ya i got 400'(not that thats a bad score) and they kinda go 'oh....ok...well done' ahhhhhh this comment makes no sense i think!:o

    actually, its probably my ego!

Jus wanna do best in the class points wise....Did it in the mocks, had a disappointing Junior so I had motivation when I hear the rest of the class saying easy B here , A there etc ....

400pts...Wouldnt be too bad from Finglas?!

  • Registered Users Posts: 427 ✭✭izzyflusky

At this point theres no parental pressure at all.Because at 18 what are they going to do? And most of all i suppose because they see i really want to get into my course and i get very stressed out so they try and support me saying its not the end of the world and i can always try again next year etc...Even though i dnt need many points at all for my course .
So what motivates me is gettin into my course, because there's nothing else i want to do, and i wudnt like to have to move to do it either. oh and i also want to do better than i did in the mocks, but lets c about that lol

Well I've always wanted to go to college for as long as I can remember and I reckon it's there that I'll finally be in my element doing a subject that I love so I may as well put in the effort for my final exam rather than fall at the last hurdle!

The desire to do Arts and go on Erasmus and speak Italian for the rest of my life :P Also the idea of looking at my results and crying while everyone else is leppin around with joy!!
