Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Another presenter has left Dublin station FM104 to join RTÉ 2FM. Jenny Greene follows in the footsteps of former Strawberry Alarm Clock presenters Colm Hayes and Jim-Jim Nugent, who are now entertaining the nation on weekday mornings on 2FM. Jenny joins RTÉ after eight years with FM104; she began her career at the age of 15 as a DJ with the pirate dance station Pulse FM. She later entered the 2FM 'DJ for a Day' competition and finished in the final six.

Jenny began working in FM104 when she was 17 and is now looking forward to new challenges and a wider national audience. Her new time-slot, 'The Frequency', begins on Friday June 22nd at 7pm. Jenny Huston's Waiting Room will now start at 10pm with Dan Hegarty following from midnight.

RTÉ 2FM Head John Clarke said: "It's great to welcome Jenny to RTÉ 2FM. She is bright, young and talented and is going to be a fresh voice in our new schedule which is already getting a positive response from listeners'

Expect more 104 exits over the coming weeks.

    Unhappy campers looking for gigs.

Why would they be unhappy, terrible choice over the music they have to play but they still have jobs which are pretty hard to hold down in that business.

And eh what station DOES let DJs pick the music?

I think you should go back to radio school.

Really depends on the show, the station and the time of day. Obviously specialist shows (normally in the PM) have contol over their playlist.

Obviously I knew that was just making that point. What I meant to say was they should know they're all dummies, why be unhappy about that when you have such an easy job.

You don't have a clue what you're on about. You should check out radiowaves.fm full of kids waffling like they've done 20 years in commercial radio over there too.. :D

Radio schools are usually run by people who never made it in the industry, with a few notable exceptions. I would say the stations that let DJs pick the music are the good ones.

Unless you want to be robo-jock where all the presenters and all the shows sound exactly the same: preferred by Big Balls.

The successful ones you mean. Right yeh, good man.

I'm not going to get into how a playlist works as I don't have the time but there's a lot more to it than 'let the DJ pick his/her favourite music and the listeners are happy'.

The only station I know of that allows it on a wide basis is 2fm and they're not exactly leading the pack.

Jenny worked for Pulse 103 in the late 90s. The station was in Belvedere Place. She has worked for 104 for the last 6/7 years. Moving to National Radio with "RTE" is actually seen as a big thing, by the way. It is a promotion. Tara Loughrey Grant has also moved quite recently... to Phantom.

Yes all commercial stations are playlisted stations for obvious reasons.

Obviously a typo there, what they meant to say was Colm and Jim-Jim are annoying the nation. Those two should be shot.

all radio stations have the same format for each show during the day.. dj's dont have a choice of what is played, they can however decide on which order they are gonna play songs. the only dj in the whole of ireland that can actually play what they want is yer man that got the special meteor award the last time.

Id take a job in 104 if i could!

Not all stations have this. Some will have set playlisted songs and a certain quota of suggested songs....where the DJ can pick from a long list of tracks.

Eh...this is sorta inaccurate! There isn't one single DJ in Phantom that IS completely playlisted, actually. There is always a large element of choice, and there are a lot of presenters that have completely free reign to play anything they like. Which is great.

And I'm not sure what you mean about having "the same format for each show during the day"...

    They don't.
    Talaghn wrote:

They can't if it's playlisted. A playlist is just that - a list of songs and in a particular order.

No he's not the only one.

In short, Talaghn, no disrespect but you have not got the foggiest what you are on about.
