Netbeans debugger stopped working

This is driving me nuts-the debugger in Netbeans 5 has stopped working after working fine. Now I can set breakpoints but they don't work, can't set watches and I can't call up any of the debugger panes onto the ide (from Window->Debugging->). Anyone any ideas? Googling shows lots of people get this problem but I can't find…

I've only used Netbeans once or twice for compiling small applications so can't give much of a response. Have you tried reinstalling?
