Hi - I am an Irishman who has been located to Vietnam for my sins for a year with the job (no this is not a lonely hearts add)

I know that you can now watch the GAA games live via the RTE website ... only catch is you have to have an Irish IP.

I have heard briefly form a mate that there is some way that I could use a proxy/gateway to get me an Irish IP and thus watch my beloved Cork on the web (No comments about last weekend please).

Anybody know how I could do this?

Dont have a proxy for you, but watch this site closer to the weekends and you might get a stream and if not try the forums :)

You could get your friend to install an ssh server and you could use it as a SOCKS proxy. If your friend is on linux he will already have an ssh server running. If not he can follow directions here http://pigtail.net/LRP/printsrv/cygwin-sshd.html. Here's a piece on using ssh as a socks proxy http://www.dribin.org/dave/blog/archives/2004/11/22/ssh_socks/.

He could also use Apache with the mod_proxy module enabled. See here http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_proxy.html. If he takes this option make sure he locks this down. Otherwise he'll have every shagger on the internet using his machine as a proxy.

Both of these will need his broadband upload to be fast enough to be able to stream the media back to you in vietnam. He'll be pulling the data from rte and you'll be pulling it from him, so the slowest point there is probably his upload.
