this might sound a like a bit of a laugh, but hear us out.
we, myself and another lad, are design students and are running
    a website called andy.ie,

andy stands for A New Design Youth, and we want to promote
the work of design students around ireland through the website.
we do not use andy for self promotion, we have no work on show on the site.
    we promote other peoples work.

at the moment we have to manually update the website,
however come suptember we will be promoting it in colleges,
and it will seriously eat into college time if we have to manually
update galleries etc for potentially 2000+ people

    so...

What we're looking for is a similar login system to a social networking site.

A register page, where the user inputs their information,
    Then in the background,
a system that would take that information,
create a folder in their name,
in a location defined by their reg info

    ie. usergalleries/college_name/year_of_enrolling/firstname_surname/

then the system would copy the contents of a template directory
    already
on the server into that newly created user account.

    The contents of the
template folder include an upload php form,
flash based gallery and user page,
most of which has already been
created and will require no additional work on your half.

The system will then add their name and link of their gallery
(copied from the template folder) to an xml file, which is part
of the menu system for our user galleries.

Upon login the user would be taken to their account page which
    would allow them access
to the upload.php forms etc in their
account folder on the server, which must be untouchable until login.

ie. someone cant just enter the url of the uploads page and get straight to it/they would have to login.

because we are students we cant offer much,(dont laugh) we can offer 100euro,
i realise that something of this complexity is worth closer to 1000e(???),

we dont expect to have someone slave away for hours for a measly 100euro,
however if you have created similar in the past and can adapt it,
or if you know a system that can be easily edited to do what is needed
then you could make a small bit of money.

this is a once off project,

however there is a possibility of future work/projects & decent money when the site takes off.

thanks for reading, hope to hear from some one.
if anyone would like to take on this challenge we would be forever in your debt!

    sm

Something like PHPFox might work for you. It's pretty much a clone of mySpace but it comes at a cost. You can pay a monthly fee of approx 30euro for the license and modify the core of the application at will to suit your needs. To keep up with the payments for the software you would have to monetise your website a bit or else get site sponsership.

The other alternative that comes to mind is Joomla. Joomla is a free CMS which might have plugins available to turn it into a more gallery based solution. I'm not sure though. You might find the solution on the Joomla Forum.

€100 you say. Rich students I see :) If there is a strict deadline on this I can't help but with a few conditions if this is something that we can take a few months to do then I'd be willing to help. PM if you're interested. I'll give you a link to one of the sites I've done recently and you can decide for yourself then if you wish to move ahead.

    hey ron,
someone else has already been in contact with us about it, but we'll keep you in mind.

cheers for the feedback from everyone on the forum and off the forum.
