Server 2000 DNS question

Good Morning!

I've recently set up an internal open source ticket request system (OTRS) in our workplace, I have it set up on server 2000 SP4 and it's running on apache web server.

Our domain controller is a Windows 2000 SP4 machine. At the minute, if a customer wants to log into our ticket system, they have to browse to http://nameofserver/otrs/customer.pl. Admin is the same only it's /index.pl.

Is there a way I can change this in the DNS settings of our Domain controller so I can resolve this long address to a shorter and easier to remember one i.e. http://Helpdesk.domain.com?

You should be able to do something with Apache rather than with DNS.

Once you have your DNS setup 100.x.x.x -> OTRS (for instance)

In IIS I would use the Home Directory to simply point to where the file is located.. it should be the same in Apache.

Okay thanks, but could you give me an idea of what I'm looking for in Apache?

I don't know much about it, Apache came bundled in the OTRS installer so I didn't have to do any setting up with it.

Any leads would be great thanks

edit: Actually just found a bunch of stuff here (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/core.html#documentroot) so I should be good to go.

Take a look for a httpd.conf text file.
On a Linux box probably talking about /etc directory, on Windoze not sure where.
There may be a VirtualHosting section in this where you can set up virtual hosts on the apache server.
On Windows ApacheConf is an Apache Configuration GUI that will help you to tune the main Apache configuration httpd.conf file.

Remember the web is your friend. Use it.

Okay thanks, but could you give me an idea of what I'm looking for in Apache?

Unfortunatly I don't know Apache well enough to point to specific config changes but I know its possible.

I can certainly do it in IIS if you decide to move to a more DECENT web server (J/k before the Lions eat me ) but seriously if you can't figure it out let me know I have some friends who run Apache for all their webservers so im sure we could figure it out.
