Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

where to get rid of old PC

I purchased a new DELL PC which arrived yesterday. I took away the old PC (also a DELL) which is now lying in my living room.

Just wondering how I should dispose of this correctly?

I'm based on the southside currently, and I was informed that there was some kind of place that takes old PC's for recycling in Walkinstown somehwere :S

    Anyway, any help is appreciated

sell it or give it away for free on adverts.ie. Somebody will want it. If you are worried about important data on the hard drive. Use something like DBAN to wipe the disk. Leave it wiping overnight to be sure.

Agreed, pop it on adverts. How old/what specs?

If it is really old and impossible to get rid of, your local county council recycling centre should take it off your hands for free - at least that's the way it is here in Kilkenny. They take any electrical/electronic waste for free because of the WEEE charge.

Bray has a recycling centre off the Boghaul Road which accept PCs and monitors for recycling. but try first in free stuff here. If you have any worries about/trouble wiping have a look at http://dban.sourceforge.net/.

Dell did this thing a few days ago where they took anything electrical for recycling for free. You could bring it to the dump, but you have to pay to dispose of it. Dell might take back their own computers for free, try contacting them.

Dell still do the EEC yoke. Get them to dispose of it for free.

Saw an organisation mentioned on RTE news the other night, Caracas I think their name was. They are gathering PCs for the third world and were asking for more. Just did a Google for them and couldn't find them.

Maybe someone else might know the organisation. I probably have their name wrong.
