Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I wonder how many posters actually read the forum rules (found in stickies written by mods) before posting on threads?

Do you read forum/thread rules before posting? 85 votes

I have a blindspot for any sentence that follows the word "Sticky:"...

It's against the rules to not read the rules. :P

This one doesn't have a colon so it remains within sight.

[edit] oh the forum timestamps are f*cked again...

Ah so it has....one's cancelled out the other or something ¬¬
Oh and it's in my subscriptions.

BTW doesn't this now officially qualify as a pointless poll?
...and shouldn't it be in feedback?

This thread is likely to get a very low post count being hid in the stickies? Ha!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,909 ✭✭✭✭Wertz

You've initiated a hugely significant social experiment here on boards. The merits of stickified announcements to forum members hangs in the balance.

How did you do that, quote me before I posted?

And what's with all the slagging of my username? :(

Karoma had stickied this thread well before your post, hence the slaggings. The magical post is just a timestamp boards snafu, or MAGIC, or MAGIC relating to your nick.

They're all pretty similar, so once you've read one you can expect the same kind of stuff in another.

I tend not to read them in forums I rarely use.

wouldnt this poll have some sort of selection bias

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,986 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

Banned. I wrote them but didn't read.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,982 ✭✭✭Caliden

Depends if I can stand not being able post on the forum if I get banned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

I never ever read any stickies...

    Or do I? Hmm...

    Unstickimified.

The rules are mostly common sense, so...sometimes ;)

    ooh, I want some toast.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,855 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

It's very rare that I read them, as most forums are just for discussion and as long as you are pretty much on topic and not a tard then you should be fine.

On the other hand I wish people would read the rules in the poker sub forum for advertising stuff before they decide to go ahead and post something vague.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,243 ✭✭✭✭Jesus Wept

    yay. I got a mention.

    (guess what I voted for B!ue :p)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,906 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

Never read forums rules and never been banned either.

    Common sense ftw.

I do think those "don't talk about x" stickies should be removed by now, and limited to the relevant forums, gives them more exposure than they deserve (and any publicity is good publicity).

The ban is sitewide, and given the amount of events they promote possibly relevant to most fora. That sticky stays.

It could easily be incorporated into the forum rules however :)

Like the sticky? :) (taking up a precious thread slot)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,396 ✭✭✭✭Karoma

Exactly. There's only 2 stickies now... I think 1 thread slot is worth avoiding bans, and locks and lawsuits.

Did this forum get less sticky?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,930 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

    yes... i left for a while ¬_¬

Why are you constantly boasting about being sticky? ... tmi, tbh! :p

Back OT: I skimmed a couple of them in the early days, don't bother much anymore, as I find a bit of common sense takes you a long way. I suppose if I took a fit to post in a forum fairly alien to me (e.g. "Mustard" or "Lego") I would probably have a quick glance at the charter rather than risking making the natives restless ... I suspect both commodities could be used as offensive weapons!

I only read them when I'm stuck for something to read on the toilet.
