Someone I know from continental Europe needs to set up a company. Because of his position he’s not allowed to set up a company in his own country, and he’s wondering if Ireland could be an option. Would it be possible for him to do that, whilst not living in Ireland? And is there such a thing as a type of agency that could provide him with an address and deal with administrative things, such as forwarding on faxes?

Eh? Does this not sound dodgy?

No, unless you are prepared to become a director or someone who lives in ireland full time.

in reference to the 'dodgy' comment - situation is that french law does not allow medical professionals to set up companies in france

    any thoughts appreciated

It is fair to say that the bureaucracy involved in setting up companies in some european states is horrendous.

You should talk to one of the formations specialists like:
    http://www.thecompanyshop.ie/
http://www.companysetup.ie/ - have used them, service was good

I'm sure they can best advise you.

Yep, he can do that, but he needs to put down a bond (discussed in another thread).

I would be surprised if medical professionals are forbidden from setting up a limited company. I can't see how it would be practical to forbid them from being shareholders. This would also appear to violate the treaty of rome, as well as a number of other things.

I think it is far more likely that he is forbidden from practicing his trade as a limited company - that is not surprising. If this is the rule, he wouldn't be allowed practice his profession in france under the Irish company either.

Legal and tax advice in France is needed first off, I'd say.

There's a company called COMPANY BUREAU www.compayformations.ie - a bloke I know works for them - they specialise in setting up companies for non-residents. I suggest he gives them a shout. Why can't he set up in his own country as a matter of interest?

Try conspiracy theories 'information' or lack of it - ur comments aren't needed..

Is there anyway he could find out what other medical professionals in france do in this situation? As one of the contributors already said he should probably consult a commercial solicitor and/or a tax advisor in France...

All those eye lazer & cosmetic surgery places appear to be limited companies over here so I don't think that same rule applies in Ireland? Let me know how he's goes...
