Interesting stuff here. I'm not sure the 2 cars are directly competing with each other, as the BMW will be considerably more expensive presumably?

There's the fwd vs rwd debate too, but that could be made about lesser Audi A4's too.

The BMW is a premium brand without doubt (albeit a major seller with the 3 series outselling Mondeo's in the UK market), and the Mondeo nearer mid market. Image does count I guess.

Mondeo is much much bigger physically, inside and out.

Depreciation happens to all cars. Try trading in your 320d after 3 years for a new one. It'll cost a packet.

I don't think the new Mondeo and any BMW are in competition. The mondeo is a front wheel drive car with a heavy engine up front. The BMW is rear wheel drive. to most people its all about badges. In the city the driven wheels are unimportant. to the rest of us in the country whhooooo hooo rear wheel drive rules I'd rathar have an old Capri than a new Mondeo. now wheres my Merc'.

You are clearly insane! I have a Escort MkII RS2000, which easily outperforms and out handles any Capri, but current fwd road cars are much better to drive everyday.

p.s. For the occaisional "fun" drive however, things are entirely different ;)

The article which stated that the Mondeo is a better car to drive than the E90 3 series was in last weeks Autocar magazine. Well actually I can't remember if they said it was a better car than the E90 to drive or not, but they did say that given the choice between the two, it was the Ford they would have. They definately said the Mondeo was a better car than the 3 series.
Autocar only put up select bits on the internet, and the test of the Mondeo vs the 3 series is one of those things that is not published by them on the net.
