    food:

Govinda's on Abbey St. - decent food, pretty cheap.
Yamamouri on the quays, just down from The Winding Stairs which is also a good spot, albeit more expensive.
Epicurean Food Hall, Liffey St. (try Taco Taco!)
A couple of decent chinese restaurants on Moore St.

    booze:
Pravda & The Gin Palace, both on Liffey St
    TP Smiths, Jervis St.

Actually, maybe it was a statement... (ie. the best thing in D1 is never having been there and looking for fun....)

there is plenty of great things in d1, dont let the odd numbered postcode put you off, for one you will get better value on henry street as opposed to grafton street, people actually shop on henry street instead of window shop on grafton street. moore street is great for a trip down memory lane and to see cultural dublin, you also have a lovely walk along the quays through the IFSC and docklands, explore!

The Italian Quarter place that Mick Wallace built is quite good. Nice restaurants/cafes. It's opposite the Millennium Bridge.

The best thing in D1 are the bridges into D2.

    1) Keatings on an odd weeknight or a Sunday afternoon.
    2) Movie Magic on Parnell St, home to one of the best selections of 80's classics such as D.A.R.Y.L. or Adventures in Babysitting.
    3) The Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin.
    4) Store St. Gardai Station: a great place to call when practicing your "Please come and break up the knife fight in my building." call, because they know you can't be serious and won't show up.

... I may have to edit that later.
