The Clash are the best, but Anarchy in the U.K is the best punk song.

while ''anarchy for the uk'' is a crackin song people forget that uk punk bands all played at a fairly mundane pace until the ramones played a legendary gig at the roundhouse in london in 1976. all the who's who of the punk glitterati were in attendance and as a result of that gig all speeded up their songs so in my opinion the best tune from that era is ''judy is a punk'' by the ramones, with ''thinkin bout the usa'' by eater a close second.

    cheers

Pistols were very influential despite being manafactured to a great extent.

One of punks more popular misconceptions was that the Pistols were in some way 'manufactured' by Malcolm McLaren. This is not the case. Long before John Lydon joined the Pistols, Steve Jones and Paul Cook were in a band together called The Swankers (previously known as The Strand) and it was Jones who approached McLaren with a view to getting him to manage the band. McLaren agreed to take on managerial duties on the proviso that bass player Wally Nightingale left the band. He did and this all happened in 1975!

McClaren took a couple of kids, who were going nowhere fast and basically dressed them and told them what to say,the music was they'res, everything else was McLaren,he did the same thing with the New York Dolls, dressing them in red leather and the whole hammer and sickle thing,Adam Ant paid him £1000 for the pirate, indian, highwayman, thing and the twin drummer/burundi beat Idea, whatever else about him,he was responsible for a few careers.
