Hey Celtic07 yeah i thought it was very quick myself i was a bit suprised when i got it this morning. Your from the south though so it might take a day longer for you to get yours. What did you think of the Initial Selection Test? i didnt think i had passed i thought the last part was very hard.

Thanks. I hope you pass too. But even if you dont you can always try again next time thats what i did. i took the intial last year and didnt pass it. But i really wanted to be a police officer so i said i was going to keep trying. I hope i pass the assessment but if i dont at least i will have the experience of it and it will be easier if i have to do it again.

i had my inital test a couple of weeks ago n thought it was easy enough the 3rd part was the only part u had 2 think in lol

i have 1 question for psni

see in the assessment center do u get told about the scenairo b4 u go in r is it just thrown onto of u as soon as u step in the room??

    cheers in advance

n good luck 2 those still waiting on there results!!!

Hi mate for the assessment you will go into a prep room with a sheet of paper in front of you, they will then tell you too turn over and you have 5 mins to read and take note of things.

Then you will move too the role play room, it begins as soon as you enter the room and you have 5 mins to come up with a solution.

Hope that helps but Im sure PSNI would know more about it.

Hey all, done my initial at the Burlington this morning, must say it was tricky, Part A was handy Part B was handyish and Part C was hard, mind you i answered most of the questions so i can only remain optimistic! Gud'luck with those due to get results!

Did you get all the qusetions in part c done? When do you have your assesment?

jim2001 got there before me and he's spot on with his answer. You'll know in advance what the situation is before you go in to the room. The only thing you don't know is the person's sex because the names are neutral. You only find that out when you open the door and the clock starts ticking.

    Hey there,
I'm currently doing a degree in Management, and interested in joining the police afterwards. Are there good opportunities within the force to make use of a Management degree upon entry or within the first couple of years of joining? Or will my degree be a waste of time? I'm half way through it at the moment.
    Thanks.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Help & Feedback Category Moderators Posts: 9,808 CMod ✭✭✭✭Shield

In short, no. The majority of management skills you will have studied will go unused while you are in your 2 year probationary period. After your 2 years have elapsed and you are a substantive Constable, you can apply to join the High Potential Development Scheme (HPDS).

    More on this here

Missed the test... got lost in Dublin traffic and ended up in the city centre, then when I finally got to the Ballsbridge area I couldn't even find the hotel. Ended up just driving home!

Disappointed, but not that cut up about it. Was in two minds whether I really wanted to apply anyway so I guess my mind has been made up for me!

    Same here... :o

I have my assessment centre date on the 4th October was just wondering if anyone (PSNI) knows if there is any sort of dress code, or will jeans and a t-shirt be fine? May just me being overly fussy but don't want to walk in being the only one not in suit and tie, or lose marks and make a bad first impression!!

Shirt , Suit , decent shoes

Tie optional , but its up to you to look respectable. a decent fitting suit is the norm.

Best of luck when the actors start abusing you. Keep calm and stick to your guns .

A hint be very firm on racial issues.

Lads anyone going for this best of luck.

    Different note.
There was a contstable up here from the republic being wanted for assault last week while on the job in Derry. He has since left the PSNI and fled back across the border. Tarnishs the reputation of Southern candidates a bit but I am sure it wont matter.

From www.selectnip.org it says: "The next campaign will be launched in 2008 (date to be confirmed)." They usually have them in March but I will let you all know here just in case you miss it. Sorry to hear you missed it this time around. Keep trying.

Just as Zambia232 said, but I'd be pushing for a tie. This is your time to shine and you need to look and act as professional as possible. Best of luck!

So I wasn't the only one!

I think I will re-apply at the next campaign. Annoyed though that I'll have to wait another six months at least.

They really should have them elsewhere in the Republic besides Dublin. It's a bloody nightmare of a place.

Police forces in england are swamped with applicants , but look around them and apply for one you think looks interesting simply consult the inter web

Be advised applying for a UK police force denies you for applying for another UK police force (except the PSNI) for about two years.

Is it true most forces require you to be a british citizen 3 years before you apply?

Don't think so, you just have to be an EU citizen or have permanent leave to remain in the UK.

Nope jus double checked, for some maybe all you need to have lived in the uk. just looked at the hampshire constabs website :

''Applicants for the post of Police Officer with Hampshire Constabulary, regardless of nationality, must have lived in the UK for 3 years immediately prior to submitting an application''

Lads try the Met in london ...

You can always transfer later in life to other UK forces

Whats the option try the PSNI recruitment again and again or try the met get two years experience and transfer.

The question you have to ask your self is do you want to be a policeman or not.

did you do the role play assesment? what was it like?
    i have mine in november

    Hi!

I did my initial test on the 14th (was surprised at only 14 people all in at the 9.30 sitting - and only one other girl - thought there would be more...) and now I've the assessment on Weds. I spend a lot of time in Belfast visiting friends, so would be an interesting move, esp for a Cork girl :-)

Not going to stress about the assessment roleplays - my months on the streets as a Reserve should come in handy I hope! Would recommend anyone to join up with them if you want some work experience - you do learn a lot. And you learn a lot about general social science as well - if there are other areas of work you're interested in, outside of policing.

Hi connor123 yea I did the Roleplay assessment, I enjoyed it to be honest. Just be calm and clear in it and you will be fine. Just waiting for the results now.

Good luck lisinsooz for wednesday, hope it goes well for you. Are you a reserve for the Garda or PSNI part time?

Not a bad idea at all. There are quite a few GR out there testing the water to see if a career in policing is for them, without the drawback of having to give up full time jobs. The GR men and women I've met all seem to be fairly down-to-earth people... just what we need up here!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34 jim2001

Hi Lisnsooz, how did you get on at the assessment?.

Near two weeks and still no word for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 169 ✭✭lisnsooz

    Hey Jim,
I thought it was OK, but tough - sure you haven't a clue really do you, if you were doing well or going down the swanny?

And I didn't seem to be completing my 5 min spiels within the 5 mins, like some of the others were. We did some of these with the GRs during training, and with them, there were certain things you had to say/offer before the actor backed down and went with you. So I was frantically offering as much as I could to see what would work. But in a calm, collected, problem-solving way tho...LOL. Finally, 4 years of Roches Stores electrical dept customer service being put to good use!

Just wait and see I guess. Do send me a PM if you hear anymore BTW - I'm the only one I know who's doing this!

    Lis
