Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

M'soft office - .docx, .pptx etc

Quick question - hopefully someone can help me.

I've just started using windows vista with office professional.

I created a powerpoint file and it ends in '.pptx'. Similarly word docs I create seem to end in '.docx'.

Problem is I've emailed them to my bus partner (he has office 2003) and he can't open them...

Someone please tell me that there is some easy way to make these things communicate and that I'm not entering a world of pain!...

Open the documents you have already saved and choose 'Save As', then select 'Word 97 - 2003 Document' and the same for Powerpoint.
In future use 'Save As' instead of 'Save' to avoid the compatability issues.

Thanks - that wasn't too hard!

BTW the difference in size between the pptx version (231kb) and the ppt version (3.1mb) is huge. Will save a lot of space going forwards..

the joys of office 2007, I get that problem a lot in the office so i keep a central PC set up with 2007 on it and if any docs get emailed in I convert them that way.

might there be some way to make 2007 save it as a .doc by default? might be worth looking at

I think there's a way of making '07 save as doc by default, but I can't verify as I don't have it installed.

There's a free converter available from MS for Office 2003 that allows you to convert/open Office 07 documents. They'll probably send it out through automatic updates (if they haven't already).

    There is a way alright.
Click on the Office icon (top left) in any of the Office applications. At the bottom of the menu click '[app name] Options'. In the left pane click 'Save' and change 'Save files in this format' to what ever format you want. Click OK to save changes.
