Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Keane is capt so I'm guessing he'll be playing every week unless he's injured

    I'm in too (11 Carraghers)
only problem is I haven't actually got Carra in my team

Crikey, this isnt easy...I dont remember it being so hard last season to pick a team

One top class player and your budget is ko'd ...try getting a good team together after buying Drogba or Lampard or Rooney or Ronaldo and see how you get on ! I hate packing the bench with the bargain basement crew from the promoted teams but sadly thats gonna be the key! Gonna have to try and work out who the new Reading is !
I was actually suprised that I found it much easier than usual. No doubt I'll change it a few times before August but this is it atm.

    GK: Sorensen

    D: Terry
    D: Agger
    D: Neill

    M: Benayoun
    M: Ronaldo
    M: Maloney
    M: McSheffrey
    M: Gamst Pedersen

    F: Berbatov
    F: Eduardo

    Sub: Taylor (GK)
    Sub: Stokes
    Sub: Jaidi
    Sub: Ingimarsson

Once Maloney settles in at Villa, and stays injury free, he'll set up dozens of goals and score his fair share.

Some people seem worried about picking African players because of the African nations cup !
Dont see the problem, most people would only have 1- 3 max and there is always the substitution option come the time they leave....

The thing about the african lads is you will get till xmas out of them of course but then they will be gone for a month...and meanwhile all the other lads prices have risen so yeah you can sell Drogba but the odds are you wont be able to afford Rooney cos his price will have gone up for example. Im of course assuming that most people will use their full budget so the point is when the prices have risen over the few months and you need to bin 2-3 players for a month you could find yourself calling Eddie Hobbs as you might have run out of cash and wont be able to get equal standard players....

Yea, thats a good point you make but I usualy find there are always a couple of relatively cheap players available that are in good form to swap with your stars.
I dropped Drogba towards the end last year Keane and it worked out well. There will always be options avaialable. I am a bit more cautious about it now though.

McSheffrey seems to be a favourite, might throw him in....

    Entered...bluejays fc(yes, I now watch baseball..guess my team?)

    Given
    Ferreira
    Bridge
    Woodgate
    Hyypia
    Petrov
    Alonso
    Bentley
    Jenas
    Tevez
    Yakubu
    Friedel
    Ben-Haim
    Pennant
    Johnson

That was an auto-select team. I'll make a change or two before the start though, even then, some of those players are quite good, which I'll gladly keep.

I was also looking at Pizarro as I think hes a good buy at 8m and Id expect him to get plenty of chances IF he plays !

Same story with Berbatov, will he play  He defo wont be playing week in week out, trying to second guess Jol's team....more chance of guessing the bonus ball in the lotto ;)

I can't decide between Keane and Berbatov. I have a feeling Keane will have a fantastic season next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

Joined, but I'll probably chop and change my team.

I don't think people should worry about Berbatov, I don't think he'll be rotated as much as the others. I think he's pretty much a cert in the Spurs team.

What about Keane then...being captain I thought he would be a cert too...
Will it be Keane and Berbatov first choice and Bent being the one coming off the bench and rotated alot.

I thought King was captain. Jol likes to play Keane in the home games and 50/50 between Defoe and Keane for away.

Leroy Lita a snip at 6.5 - he had a strong finish to the season and played well with the England yoofs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,452 ✭✭✭Time Magazine

Decided to drop Davies for Leroy Lita after that suggestion.

    1. Reina (GK)
    2. Melberg
    3. Dunne
    4. Terry
    5. Ingimarsson
    6. Reo-Coker
    7. Ronaldo (C)
    8. Whitehead
    9. Lampard
    10. Drogba
    11. Lita
    12. Hahnemann (GK)
    13. Rosenior
    14. Skoko
    15. Chopra

Villa have just paid £8.5m for Reo-Coker so I expect he'll be an anchor in the centre of the park playing every game and getting a few assists. A bargain at £5.5m.

  • Registered Users Posts: 495 ✭✭tetsujin1979

With Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge reportedly set to miss the start of the season, Tal Ben Haim is the only recognised left full at Chelsea, bargain at 6m

Unfortunately for the rest of you, I have just assembled what must be the greatest fantasy football XI of all time.

GKs: David James and Jussi Jaakelinen

Defenders: Steve Finnan, Amady Faye, Ricardo Carvalho, Nyron Nosworthy and Nicky Shorey

Midfield: Cristiano Ronaldo (C), Kieran Richardson, Graham Kavanagh, Steven Ireland and Frank Lampard

Strikers: Robert Earnshaw, Fernando Torres and Dmitir Berbatov

As you can see, a flawless squad. I might even beat my top-200 finish last season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

    James

    Lescott
    Distin
    Samba

    Ronaldo
    Fabregas
    Arteta
    Malouda

    Tevez
    Healy
    Nugent

Subs: Bywater, Richardson, Pearce, Claude Davis

That might change again, not sure. I've kept the spine of my team from last season (James, Lescott, Samba, Ronaldo, Fabregas, Arteta). Samba is a great defender for his price. Blackburn keep clean sheets, and he is a threat at set pieces.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,500 ✭✭✭Fuzzy_Dunlop

Oh yeah i'm in again, the 56ers will reign supreme this time around

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,587 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

    Team Brendanger:

    James
    Dunne
    Shorey
    Baines
    Ronaldo
    Reo-Coker
    Gerrard
    Essien
    Berbatov
    Rooney
    Lita

    Subs
    Kirkland
    Muamba
    Boyce
    Henchoz

I've got goals from my defence. Lots of assists and goals coming from the midfield. All three forwards should score high. And just the one starter off to the African Nations Cup!

oh yeah and who takes all the penalties in the Premiership? Could be important!

    Arsenal - Gilberto
    Villa - Barry
    Liverpool - Stevie G
Man U - Ronaldo? (not sure on this one)
    Chelski - Drogs or Lamps?
Spurs - Is it normally Keane? or Berbatov
Everton - Arteta took them last year, didn't he?
    Bolton - Is it Speed?
    Reading - Doyle

Anyone know who takes peno for anyone else?

Yeh I was thinking that, though I think my forward line of Van Persie - Tevez - Berbatov will be incredible. All three are woefully under-priced imo.

I really would like to have Rooney in there, but you can only play with 3 forwards :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,587 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

I'd be hesitant putting any Liverpool players in - for the simple fact that Rafa rarely plays the same team twice. I reckon that the only players guaranteed starts next year are:

    Reina
    Carragher
    Agger
    Finnan
    Gerrard
    Torres (possibly!)

I had Tevez in my team, but I swapped things around at his expense. He'll have had a long year of football with the Copa America, and this protracted move to Man Yoo (if it materialises) is only going to exacerbate things. I'll hold off until a few weeks into the season, I think.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,391 ✭✭✭One Cold Hand

I wouldn't even could on Torres as a guaranteed starter. If I pay 10m for someone he's gonna be one of my main men, so I want a guaranteed starter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,500 ✭✭✭Fuzzy_Dunlop

What the hell, according to this Man City only have 5 defenders in total. That can't be right can it? Is Dunne still worthwhile?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

I've been thinking about Vassell as an option. He always played best for England, under Sven. City also turned down a bid from Besiktas (I think) today for him.
