    Hey
I always liked these cars and may have the chance to pick one up this week.
Its a 9000 2L turbo 5dr hb. It has 125000 on the clock but the car itself is in perfect condition, inside and out. It has an nct till 04/09.

My harte is over rulling my head as i do like these cars but know little about them. Can anyone advise me please. Also, what would your max budget be for something like this? Thanks.

A fine car, very comfortable, quite fast, very practical and fairly reliable.

It does benefit from Saab or Saab specialist servicing tough as there are a few niggely things in the electrics that can spoil the fun.

Engines, turbos and gearboxes are tough enough, high milers are not unknown.

Body should still be virtually rust free. Make sure the climate control works as it is a PITA to fix. Also look out for worn engine mounts (shaking on acceleration, wobbly gearstick). Once one of the cheap top rubber one goes, usually the expensive bottom one follows soon enough ..also a PITA to fix.

Lots of info on these on the internet, including specialist fora.

Hard to sell on these days, so don't pay too much.
3- 4 k for a 97 minter (Anniversary model) is max, 2.5 k for a middle of the road CSE ...bargains can be had also.

Watch out for timing chain rattle, would be good if this had been replaced recently, otherwise factor it into your budget.

Clutch can be heavy, but it shouldn't be too heavy, you should be able to hold it down for a while without getting the shakes ...otherwise there's trouble afoot.

Hope you find a good one, they're a pleasure to drive when everything works as it should (still miss mine), can be driven quite economically as well.

Thanks for that. Its had a full service and a new Starter motor, battery.
From what i've seen around for sale they don't hold there value that much so im not going above say 1200. Thats not a lot of money for the amount of car but the miles are high as are the years. Its a 93 model.

yepp ...1200 sounds about right for that.

Just make sure you have someone nearby who will work on this and knows what they're doing.

When I had my old Saab, most garages wouldn't even want to talk to me for some reason and the ones that did just botched it up in the end.

It's not that it's too complicated ...just not that many are familiar with it and know what the typical (usually fairly cheap) weaknesses are.

Being a turbo, check the front end workings, the torque steer on a FWD car can be substantial leading to worn driveshafts, CVs, wheel bearings etc.

    Mike.
