    Hi all,

I have a friend who has a wireless vodafone card. He previously used Outlook Express and downloaded his mail fine.

However now this will not happen I have tried all email settings and these are all ok.

Would it be worth trying to install Outlook for him or what else can i try?

    Thanks
    Noel

Where was he getting his mail from? eircom.net?

And what sort of connection was he using?

If it was dial up, Outlook express may still be configured to use dial up etc

It is a E-Mail client like Outlook Express.

If that works then there is a problem with Outlook Express.

You can get it at http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/products/thunderbird/

You could try and telnet to the mail server on port 25 , open a command prompt and go ( you type in the stuff in bold)

    user1@pc:~$ telnet mail1.eircom.net 25
    Trying 159.134.198.135...
    Connected to mail1.eircom.net.
    Escape character is '^]'.
    220 mail01.svc.cra.dublin.eircom.net ESMTP

    helo

    250 mail01.svc.cra.dublin.eircom.net

    mail from: put_your_address_here

    250 ok

    rcpt to:whoever_you_want_to_send_a_test_email_to

    data

Then type your text here and finish it off with a full stop on a line by itself
    .

If that works , you know its outlook acting up

Trying to pop a free eircom.net email account to thunderbird.

Set it to connect to mail2.eircom.net on port 110, but no luck. Also tried mail2.eircom.net, as well as port 995

    Is this correct or not.

Wondering do i need to forward or alter any settings on the web mail eircom account.

Do you know if it is failing on sending.

Can you do a receive only.?

While you are on the Voda modem, you cannot use the Eircom.net servers to send.

You can't send via the eircom mail servers when you have a vodafone ip address. Ask vodafone what their outgoing mail server is and change the setting to that.
