    Considering renting a place there.

Any information on what sort of an area it is : crime, safety, noise, facilities etc would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I work around the area, but don't live there. In over 20 yrs working in the area I find it ok.

I had friends live there over the year's and all have found it ok.

Stoneybatter's a great place to live! There are all sorts of facilities, including a 24 hour Tesco, plenty of good pubs, everything you need really. And it's as safe as anywhere.

Stoneybatter is great - great pubs (though Walsh's is closed at the mo), really close to town. The Tesco is awful but at least it's open 24 hours during the week.

It is the inner city, so there are pockets of the place you'll want to avoid - drive around and you'll spot them easily enough...

Actually could someone advise me on the best pubs? I'm living just up from it off old cabra road, and havent had a chance to try out the pubs yet :)

Tommy's beside Mulligans is a lovely spot, I've heard ok things about the Belfry. The Glimmerman and Mulligans are pretty lousy and really dirty.

Walshs is place to go. Didn't realise it was closed at the mo. Lovely old man's pub. Hope they don't wreck it by "modernising" it.

    It badly needed modernising ;)

I live near Stoneybatter, and walk through it most days to the cobblestone (one of the nicest pubs in Dublin). that whole area of Dublin 7 is full of character, you'll meet plenty of sound people if you move to the area! Mulligan's, contrary to what a previous poster suggested, is a fine gastro pub serving a wide selection of beers as well as lovely grub. The amenities available around the area are pretty good too! t'would be a nice place to move to alright!

Mulligans has been done up and changed since the original comments above, from 2007 :)

Lived in Stoneybatter with the girlfriend for the last year and love it. Have lived in about 6 different areas on the Northside over the past 10 years and definatly this is the best.
Has 24 hour Centra with great deals every week, has 2 cafes with excellent food and make sure and check out Cafe hoggar all day breakfast.
Seven is one of my fave restuarants in Dublin and has terrific valueand choice.
My local is Kavanaghs (more of a mans pub according to my girlfriend) and O Garas is a great place to watch football with good value toasted sandwiches.
Manor Chipper does the best quarter pounder i've tasted in Dublin.
All in all really reccomend it and have never had any trouble in it.
