importing fridge freezer

    Can anyone advise? My sister is moving back to ireland from canada and shipping some house hold goods. Can she use her canadian fridge/freezer and what would she need to do to convert the voltage for ireland.

    she needs at least a converter for the plug itself (or cut it and fix a new one).

    If the freezer is on 220-240v she shouldn't have a problem. if it is 110V then she needs a voltage transformer/ converter for her electrical appliances.

    i've seen a few appliances that cover and detect automatically 110-240V. It should be printed on a label at the back of the fridge.

    It can be a bit messy, remember that voltage converters may step the 230V down to 110V but, they do not convert the frequency. Ireland (and all of Europe) uses 230V 50Hz. The US and Canada use 110V 60Hz.
    The frequency difference can cause problems for some appliances.

    Calculate the value of the fridge. It may end up cheaper to just buy a similar model here. There is a wide range of enormous fridges on sale here thesdays, check out Harvey Norman or somewhere like that for prices.

    1) It'll cost a lot to ship it
    2) It may not work properly
    3) You'll need a very heavy duty converter, those little ones suitable for powering a laptop or something are not suitable at all.
    4) Any warranty will be invalid and parts/service will not be available in Europe.
