I made a mistake last time around and got this, sure I wasn't going to be overclocking but with the potential in the Core 2 Duo you'd be insane not to so....

Overclocking is really poor on this board, all you can change cpu wise is the fsb or the put the multi only down......so the highest I can get is 2.6Ghz or thereabouts (I have a 6400).

Can someone suggest a very cheap overclocking board - cheap being the main point. I don't need a very good board, just a basic one that supports oc'ing a bit better then this msi one..

Oh and I'd prefer m-atx if possible but not essential!

    thanks

Thanks, I'll look into that one. I'l check the stepping but when I say I can only get 2.6Ghz, that's literally as much as can be gotten - the fsb can only be raised to 333mhz and I can't change the multi at all in the bios as it turns out. all I can do is set my ram timings, change voltage to pci-e and ram, that sort of stuff, can't go beyond 333mhz, or change multiplier.

Oh an another thing - how accurate is core temp. Because my bios is staying at start up that the cpu temp is 44c or thereabouts but core temp says 29-33c idle and 49-60c under load. Which one would be right - I find it hard to believe I could be idling at 44c on boot up if the bios is right.

try not to go 650i i have heard that some are quite buggy and also some of the boards dont clock near as well as other 1s.

    i would go for a p35 chipset.
not shure on the gigabites so just gave a few.
