Another new car history report system has cropped up for Ireland

    http://www.autocheck.ie/consumer/

but they say they do mileage reports... In my opinion they are pretty useless without it but when you go to find out more details about what the check involves the mileage report isn't in the list.

p.s. their "try it for free" sticker means you still have to pay a minimum of €20

Yeah, that's a contradiction to say the least. I'd like to give it a whirl for free a few times to see how accurate it is/isn't.

It does claim to have a record for my old 1980 VW Golf

I wouldn't be spending much money there - it reckons my integrale is a Land Rover Other..

Well they are one of the few (including my vlc ) that dont have some sort of model/spellign mistake in my cars description.

"This is a history & finance check on the Renault Safrane 2.5 RXE Auto"

The motor tax system spells it with 2 N's . Hibernian didnt have it on their system so changed the descrition manually of the 2.5 Diesel.

HEHEHE, always good to check old regs. My dads 80's (cant remember teh year) Mirifiori (sp?) is recognised anyway.

"This is a history & finance check on the Fiat 131 1300/1400 registered JZG309.
It represents a combination of the two reports listed above."

I checked some old regs that my family used to own, some of them are not found and give an error message. The same registrations that are not found on autocheck.ie are also not found on cartell.ie. Obviously both sites are using the same (incomplete) database.

It's a pity that there is no free report option on this new site as there was on cartell when it started.

It got the details of my Micra wrong. It's a 'L' model (bottom of the range), but stated it was a 'DX' model.

I think I'll stick with Cartell, at least it states the colour and engine size of the veh-ickle for free.

I got engine size with most of the registrations I submitted to Autocheck. The older registrations didn't show sizes in some cases. But it did get the cc of my old 1989 Passat, my 2000 Bora and my 2006 Zafira all correct - and other recent reg no.s, but my previous 1980 Golf and 1982 Datsun Cherry returned no engine capacity.

Charging €20 for a finance report with this "(NB: The data supplied to Autocheck is provided by third parties and as such Autocheck cannot guarantee the accuracy of this data)." in the fine print is a joke !!!

Hmm, strange that. It got the engine size of our 1981 Ford Escort Mk3 correctly (and that car went to the great M50 in the sky in the early 90's :D ).

As it did my 1980 Golf which met the scrappage hammer in 1996. But I would imagine that if you paid for a more detailed report that it woul state that the vehicle was scrapped. Nice to know if you were offered a car with that reg.
