I personally stopped going to LIM nightclubs. You have Hobson's choice. Either Costelloes (kip) or trinity rooms (hilfiger brigade) or sin bin (wannabes). The others are somewhere in between...

Any nightclub... as long as it is not in Limerick.

Costellos was my favourite when I lived in Limerick.

It is easier to get into a nightclub in Dublin than it is in Limerick.

Limerick doesn't do nightclubs. As for trinity rooms, forget it, they are very selective as to who they let in.

^^ What the billy says.. they're all a complete disaster tbh.. Used to frequent Daffy's a couple of years back, but even that's become well dodgy.. shame that even the pub scene is pretty pathetic here as well..

If you really need to go somewhere at the end of the night then Dolan's is probably the least offensive..

I don't go to night clubs in Limerick that much any more, I was in Teds Thursday (80s night) I was very drunk going in there as I was out with a few lads for a birthday party, I went down to Teds on Saturday (2 days later) and got stopped by the same bouncers (I only had 3 pints drank) I hate the way the bouncers in Limerick let you in one week and then stop you the next week!! Now I stay in my local pub and they serve you up till about 1:30 (same time as the club bars close) The Icon can be good but it's to busy, 10 Euro to get in, takes about 10mins. to call a drink, spill most of that drink by the time you get back to your table (is it worth it?) I say no and that is why I don't go to clubs that much.

Trinity Rooms all the way, can't stand the Icon and Costellos is hit and miss. That being said, I'm more of a late bar person.

We badly need a new place though.

I don't think we're doing too badly on the pub front.

I'm glad in a way to see that i'm not the only disappointed person here...

Agree with everyone here, although Trinity rooms admission policy has gotten alot better recently and I can vouch for that. One of my mates is a senior doorman in there and he says that managment reviewed it a number of months ago and decided that it was alienating people and was counter productive in terms of the type of people they were trying to keep out, I.E. the bright ralph lauren shirt brigade (although not as prevalent anymore thanks fcuk!).
But still, it leaves alot to be desired in terms of a nightclub. We still need more late bars, like amazo says.

Was in trinners mid week recently and they had both clubs closed and just the bar opened late it was excellent.

Club wise limerick does leave a lot to be desired. But in a choice Triinty usually wins

That's absolute sh1te...sorry but it is. Last week I was refused for being too drunk not having had a drink at all. In fact I was the designated driver. When I pointed this fact out the ignorant wan1<er on the door told me, and I quote "keep on drivin' so" while pusing me out of the queue. When dragged back by my drunk friends an hour later the same bouncer let me in, not before asking "are you worried about something?? you look worried"

    RANT OVER.

Other than the bouncer and prices (which are a rip off even by club standard after 12am when the price changes or so I'm lead to believe!!!) I have no other complaints. You get drugs in every club so I'm not going to single them out on that.

Molly's used to have a great buzz that's now very hit and miss while I find PJs a massive loss, loved that place!!!

Most of 'em are too overcrowded, offer very little choice of music and are full of far-too-drunk teenagers.

If I did manage to meet a really classy girl (chance would be a fine thing! ;) ) I'd be hard pushed to figure out where to take her (on a night out - less of the smutty minds!).

Icon tends to be our usual haunt, but only because of there's at least some choice of floors/music, but it's generally too mobbed and the playlist is VERY predicable.

Was pleasantly surprised when we went to Trinity Rooms recently to find that it wasn't serving drinks in plastic cups anymore......music left a fair bit to be desired, though - good for chilling to, maybe, but impossible to dance to. Again, too many bodies for comfort, though.....when they were giving out plastic cups it felt like I was at a concert or something! Can't see how it constantly claims to be one of Ireland's top clubs!

Some gob****e bouncer at the Sin Bin pissed me off one night by stopping me and telling me I was drunk - I had just arrived in town and hadn't even one drink beforehand, so the guy should look for a new job as he's ****e at his current one - so I haven't bothered going there since. I've also heard that it's gone up to €15, which means that they really do have notions above their station!

The George is sadly missed, but I'd be afraid that nostalgia has taken over, and I reckon it'd be just as overcrowded and full of drunken teenagers by now.....no-one seems to be capable of going for "a drink and a laugh" anymore; most of 'em seem to be proud of saying "I'm going out to get pissed".....

We've all had some great nights when we've ended up getting pissed, but that was a secondary consequence of a good night - nowadays it seems to be the main (only?) reason people go out, and they're deluded enough to be proud of it!

We really need a well-run, classy nightclub that knows when to stop letting people in, has decent facilities, throws people out for being drunk and/or puking in the loos and plays decent music......

That's exactly my observation! Therefore i've stopped going out. I prefer house parties now . Mre and more people like it to stay inside, decent music of your choice, a chat, good wine, food and drinks.

And you dont have to go out side for a smoke.

icon smells of domestos and vomit
the sin bin is full of rugger hugger twats
trinity rooms is good during the week when its just the back bar open not the main club, the weekends are a joke in there though, far too packed and they play good music up until about 1am then they crank out the repetitive umph umph dance ****, ill NEVER understand why they play the best music at the beginning of the night when people are more interested in getting drunk, its at the end when everyone IS drunk they should play the good, danceable music
costellos is hand if you cant be bothered putting any effort in,like the high stool used to be a few years ago,but its full of art students who think theyre better than everyone else

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,413 ✭✭✭Stab*City

where do i start.. may as well start with the bouncers as they are the front line when it comes to limerick clubs.. i hate 99% of bouncers.. i mean evan a guard will give you a test before he comments on how drunk you are.. bouncers i dont even think they would pass a test not to mind a drink or drug test.. most of these guys are so hyped up on steroids they are worse off than the clubbers.. most of them are so dumb they can only give you one response.. "not tonight man u have had too much" and "regulars only".. what they really mean is back when we were 21 u ****ed my current girlfriend and ill always hold a grudge and will never let you into a club i do the door on.. i have had so many nights ruined by bouncers.. me and my friends making plans for the weekend only to get your night ended premature by some nob in a black bomber jacket.. these days i dont even try.. if im going clubbing ill go somewhere like cork or dub or galway.. proper music and bouncers that actually let you in.. as the the music being played in limerick clubs ill save that for part2..

what exactly do you mean by good music?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭talkingclock

if you'd ask me then everything that is not under no 1-10 in the charts as this is just plain stupid mainstream and can be heard 100 times a day in the radio.

For me, the worst nightclub of all is Coco Browns.

Now, the bar upstairs and outside seating area bit is grand. But oh my god, that nightclub is sh*te.

The music there is terrible. Its like dancing in your sitting room:eek:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,648 ✭✭✭vkid

There are no good clubs in Limerick imo. Icon is terrible. Costelloes is an absolute dive with the same music every week. Coco Browns doesnt count as a night club in fairness. Teds is a disaster of a place. Dont like Baker Place at all. Its a dive as well. Trinity Rooms is a nice place but the music is awful and the door staff are terrible arrogant gimps. The Courtyard part is a nice smoking area but the music they play is horrible...so in short when i'm out in town i'd prefer a late bar like Nancys. Given up paying money to hear a dj playing ****e dance music and get a load of attitude from Limerick bouncers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,413 ✭✭✭Stab*City

there hasnt been a good club in limerick in ten years.. nobody goes to the clubs in limerick anymore for the music..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 391 ✭✭Sunn

poets of rhythm played dolans in early june , they are a live funk band from germany. It was a great gig and a few weeks before that a top american mc called j live played there.. Theres alsoofunk dj's playing high quality stuff and if you prefer things of an electronic edge theres usually something on once a month.

You are always going to get the more popular bars playing chart music, its called POP for a reason.

  • Registered Users Posts: 753 ✭✭✭badboyblast

Mickey Martins pub plays great music and Dolans have a host of funk/ Dance music- House to techno djs every month and no way would you hear anything from the charts.
You should check it out down there.
Nice bouncers and a good mix of a crowd at all the events there.

Well there's no excuse for that man, youre dead right. Im only speaking from what I was told. That plus the fact that 12 months ago, I wasnt allowed in on a number of occasions because I wasnt wearing shoes and a shirt:( , whereas now its not a problem. I guess the collective attitude needs to be given a kick in the arse as well. I might add that I prefer the bar in the courtyard rather than the club and always have.

Still if I had some real choice I wouldnt touch the place.

Shoes were never an issue in Limerick and as for a shirt

A uniformity amongst the bouncers would do. I actually felt like going to the Gardaí across the road and saying - look, I haven't been drinking and I'm being refused for being drunk beyond belief - It's not worth the hassle cos I'd only have been taken aside when inside and beaten the **** out of!!

ya fair enough dolans does have some good nights but my god does the sound system suck big time in there but on a good note i found the bouncers to be the nicest in limerick.. as for mickeys its too small and the toilets are the smelliest and worst i have ever seen by far.. as for the music.. im mostly into electronic music myself.. only place with a decent sound system to listen to this music and who actually book the acts is trinity.. but.. trinity sucks.. first of all its impossible to get in.. especially on a sunday night which is when all the big acts are booked.. and the reason trinity always books big acts on a sunday night?? because its much cheaper.. if you check the club listings usually any dj trinity books is already booked for somewhere else the friday and saturday.. so this means they dont have to fly the act over as they are already in the country.. this saves them money big time.. as for the icon forget it a glorified cheers if you guys can remember that.. its crazy any other city on a good weekend has 5 or 6 different acts playing in different venues.. all we get is the most over hyped club in the world (trinity) with a discount dj on a sunday night!! come on please!

Dolans Warehouse is actually one of the best venues for sound in the country, (of it's size). I've been at gigs all-over Ireland and Dolans is up there with the best, and far, far better than most.
